Out of curiosity guys, what brand of oil and oil filter do you use on your cars? I have used the same brand of oil and oil filter for years now, and I am just wondering if there is a better brand currently out there.

I use: Catrol oil (10W40) with an AC oil filter with the non drainback valve.

I use Quaker State Full Synthetic. I think the synthetic saved the engine in a 69 Camaro I had years ago after a major overheat situation.

I use the correct White AC Delco Oil Filter. They are only about $5 a pop up here. Just have to put up with a little French on them as well as the English.

Thanks Don. Where do you purchase the correct "White" AC Delco oil filters? I am currently using the "Blue" AC's, and I would like to switch back to the white.

We use Shell brand oil 20w-50 in all the cars. For no other reason than it was reccomended by our speed shop.
Same goes for the orange Fram oil filter which I have heard mixed reveiws about.

Where can I find these correct white units? Please share!

Here's what I have on the shelf at present. I have only one remaining with the old "AC" script. I think they changed to the new "ACDelco" script about two or three years ago which was unfortunate. I usually change my oil once a year and normally buy three filters every three years. The last bunch I think I got in the spring of 2004. I imagine these are the ones still being offerred today.

I get mine at the local parts store, but they can be purchased through any GM of Canada dealer.

Ya but we can't use a French Filter. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif The car won't run right! The oil flows in the opposite direction.http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Does anybody use Redline synthetic? I know of a member here that uses it in all of his cars.

Valvoline 30 wt Racing oil in all the old cars with AC filters. PF35 (long filter) has been superseded by 1218. Just bought some new 1218's and they're an inch shorter than the ones I bought about 6 mos. ago. My Suburban w/454 also uses this filter. Those Canadian filters are really neat with the old AC logo and white color. Every Delco filter here is blue so you have to paint them for the old cars.

I thought it makes your transmission run backwards so you have 4 reverse gears and one forward gear.

A lot of the repo houses have them as well David, but I think for a little more than $20. I've had good experiences with Greenwood's http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

The repro's don't have the raised letters on the bottom like the NOS one in the Ebay ad. If you want those raised white letters it will cost you ...
I use the repro's on my cars with Mobil-1

I just got off the phone with Greenwood, and they told me that the AC Delco P-25's will fit any 69 Chevy small block or big block. This was the filter the cars left the factory with.
There is only one thing I don't like about these repro P-25 filters, they don't have the anti-drainback valve like the updated "blue" AC filters. I guess if they worked great in 1969, there shouldn't be a problem with them today.
They also have the P-35's in stock, and they are about an inch longer than the P-25's.

It isn't so much what Oil you use,as long as you change it frequently.
For near 20 years,I run 5W-30,whatever is on sale.

On the filter,I make my own period correct P-25.
I buy the same size federated oil generic Black Oil filters for a buck, then I made a stencil of the NOS red/white/blue AC colored logo one.
After spraying the filter white,I lay my two stencils over it and hit it with red, then blue.
Looks fabulous & after 6 months I throw it all away anyway. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I've done the repaint and stencil/stamp thing too. Even sought out a 'correct' off-white, semi flat paint to use, but I just don't have the time to mess with it anymore. For $20 a pop, I'll stick with the AC's from Greenwood.

For oil; I've been with Valvoline since I bought my new '68 Chevelle. Never a problem and no reason to switch!

Redline 20/50 synthetic and K+N HP-3002, it's what the engine builder recommended and the seller gave me 6 filters so what the heck. Looks dirty as soon as you put it in tho.

I go with purolator, but the larger filter that truck applications call for. It's cheap, holds and extra pint of oil, and from a squat and peek POV it's white like an old GM filter. I agree someone should make an accurate raised letter repro for a few bucks. I'd use them if they looked right and weren't $50 or more. I can't bring myself to spend big bucks on a filter, when I know it's always 3 months from being thrown away.

I use Royal Purple oil and I buy the correct appearing repop filters, I have a few NOS filters and I will not intstall them on my cars, see what your 35 year old window stickers and build sheets look like, that is what the paper inside the filter looks like as well, spend all that money on a fresh engine and use a 35 year old paper filter no way. I know I will get some mad at me and I am all for correct parts and stuff and am a purist at heart , but judges should take points away when items like this are used on cars that are started and driven. The only way I would install one on my NOS pieces is when the car was parked at the show I would put it in and change it before starting again. Just my $.02 and I don't mean to offend anyone.

I can't remember the filter number off the top of my head, but the two quart big truck oil filter is really nice and happens to fit quite a few car chassis. It's actually easier to change due to it's length and you can never go wrong with an extra quart of insurance on your investment. As for the smaller filters, the AC PF35L is the same size as the regular PF35, but is composed of a high tech synthetic filter media inside instead of the standard paper inside. As for oil, Mobil One synthetic is the only one that exists in my world. It was first, it is best. There is nothing else. Buy it by the gallon at Wal-Mart.
