I remember the auction with a similar description and seemingly flakey identification of the rear...
[/ QUOTE ]
Is that necessary, Dan? You're obviously not an interested buyer...so what could possibly be your point? Comments like that only cause other members to be reluctant to advertise their car for sale here, or even allow their car be featured in the members ride section. Andy is a standup guy and is way too smart to even dream about blowin' smoke up anyone's skirt about a 69 Camaro on this forum site.
It's a beautiful car, from my perspective, and Andy has offered a detailed description and asked interested folks to contact him directly if they prefer additional info/pics. Good luck with the sale, Andy, and I hope it finds a caring home...that car deserves to be shown for all to enjoy.

Your right Steve I am not an interested buyer now that it is has been disclosed that the rear is not original. People pose questions and comments all day long, hence a forum, what gives (why me)? If you read what I said carefully you have noted that I was referencing the past auction’s description NOT the current description on the site. But odly enough Steve, a *similar* like statement was fashioned to avoid the truth behind the rear differential in this Camaro.
I was not attacking Quick-Bowtie or his car. I was making a comment. I do not know him, I do not you, matter of fact, I have only met 1 your gentleman who participates on this forum. If you want to police member's comments on the website, be my guest. But just like my comment might deter an interested seller from posting his car on this site, your comment makes me think twice about posting here too. I do not think your response was justified with what I said.
Like I said before, good luck with the sale http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is a really tough area that we have to deal with and I'm not referencing any particular post or car...cars are always going to get questions and rightfully so...but we need to avoid shooting the living [censored] out of every car that comes across the boards...people get tired of seeing it sometimes...not every car demands scrutiny...on one hand it's a great way for people to learn what's right and whats wrong with a car and even identify fraud...on the other hand it seems like we go a little too far at times...a POS to some of us..is actually a decent place to start for other folks...so you see it's really a tough call on how far comments should go...we have kicked around making a forum for just E Bay crap and another one for Cars/Parts For Sale and just not allow replies or questions to them...but maybe thats not the right thing either...I think we should all just try and self police this thing and try not to nit pick everything...good inforamation is critical to a site like this...but "piling on" just gets old..it's good entertainment sometimes as long as we know where to draw the line. Seems like we need to re visit this issue every now and then...so consider it revisited

Like I always say, "constructive criticism goes a long way". On the other hand, if a member(s) bash every little detail on someone's car, then that is where trouble starts happening. This is one reason why I am a little reluctant to send Bob pictures and history on any of my 69's. I have been in this hobby for almost 25 years, and I don't need someone putting my cars under a microscope and telling me what is wrong with it, and I should do this, or I should do that.
Picking apart a car to death, no matter how rare or what make and model it is really destroys this great hobby. Like Bob said, what one member might think is a treasure, another member might think it is a POS. Sometimes it is just best to keep our opinions to ourselves.

The great part about a public forum is when you can ask questions about a particular item and find out if anyone knows more about it other than the current seller. In today's musclecar market with lots of dealers involved who usually don't know the fine details on the cars, it's almost mandatory to ask questions. A lot of questions should probably be kept to private messages or emails but it's great to find out the history of a given vehicle. As for bashing a car, I don't think it's bashing when people point out items that are incorrect or possibly misrepresented. An ad in a public forum or public listing such as Ebay is open to the questioning. That's how we each determine what we're willing to pay for a given vehicle. This car was on Ebay at one time and I believe it was represented as an original JL8 car without documentation. I've talked to Richard at Coast to Coast before so I knew it wasn't an original JL8 car. But this car is a well done restoration using GM parts and it looks great!

Just wanted to type in quick note..I didnt take Dan's comment the wrong way..So no harm done, I do know what its like to get your car bashed and it isn't fun that why I and a few friends no longer go on the Corvette website and thats why I kinda keep to myself..I guess it all boils down to personality some guys speak out and some just keep it to themselves I would never want to pull the wool over someones eyes and I always try to rep my cars correctly, if you dont like thats fine and if you do thats fine too.. I personally like that SYC keeps a log of car discussed because it has saved me a couple times from buying a made/junk car. As for this Z it is a REAL Z and numbers matching, TONS of NOS GM parts and an excellent resto..Its not 100% dead on perfect but its pretty close. If it were a documented JL8 with Papers backing up a crossram Id want alot more money for it, with normal Z's bringing in the mid 40's for decent resto's and RS Z's bring in the mid 50's. I figured a HIGH POINT Z with very expensive dated parts is well worth the money to the right guy. Thanks Andy
P.S. Cant we all just get along..lol http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Thank you guy for clarifying some points. I really meant no harm by the comment. I am an easy going guy and think (I hope) I have communicated this in my post, private messages and emails to others. It is especially easy to misunderstand the direction of an internet post since there is voice tone or facial expressions. I promise to abide by our new standard here on Yenko.net.
As for Steve and Andrew, private messages have been sent and resolutions have been met. Thanks guys! Again, I apologize!

Look on the brighter side. If your car can run the gauntlet here and come out unscathed, it is a real winner. You might even learn of a few mistakes done during the restoration. For the perfectionist, your car may come out the better from the experience. There are some pretty keen minds and sharp eyes here. Not much gets by and this is good. The nit picking helps keep people honest and the fraudsters gun shy. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Common Keith - did you ever think for a moment that most people do not want their vehicle to be scrutinized? Do you believe that every member on this site wants their car to be "The ultimate garage/trailer queen"? Is having an incorrect or less than perfect car illegal, immoral or just plain wrong? How many 900+ point cars on this site get driven? Maybe, just maybe - some guys want to put more than 10 miles a year on a car.
Truth is, there are many different types of people in this hobby and on this site. Your post assumes that only perfect cars are allowed to be owned and/or sold and that people on this site have the right to critique someones car. How is that so?
Some people here feel the need to show everyone what vast amounts of knowledge they have on a certain model so they play a little game with themselves called "let's see how many incorrect things I can find on someone's pride and joy and then let the world know what I found so they can see how smart I am"
Most members of this site can pick apart a car blind-folded. Yet, they are respectful enough to keep out of someone elses business. Do you ever see Jim M., Kurt S., Ed C., Rich F.or Jerry M. posting comments about someone's Camaro? They are on this site frequently but have no desire to show the world how knowledgeable they are.
Maybe we can get Tom to start a Forum called "Go ahead, pick apart my car" to satisfy all you guys who feel the need to butt in on someone elses business.

Then when Clarke with his Broad Street Bully mentallity traded all those players including Forsberg to the future Av's for Lindros I was amazed, I knew Lindros was good but not for what we gave up, History showed who was right and the Legion of Doom, as good as they were, never got us the cup. Hylton sure got the wrong impression of where I'm coming from. The only time our cars are on trailers is when they go to and come from the bodyshop and are too torn apart to drive. Since 1997 we've put about 26K miles on our L78 Chevelle and about 7K miles on our '72 455 Lemans Sport in the last year and a half. Our cars are nice drivers at best and anything but perfect stone chips and all. I could give you a pretty big list of things that are incorrect. Hurst shifter, headers, no smog and all. We still enjoy them a lot. If we were selling our L78 car for $25K, details wouldn't matter. $75K and it is a different matter. If I see something about a car that is for sale that throws a red flag, I don't mind mentioning it to the guys here. Sometimes it's nothing and sometimes I might save someone from buying an expensive fake and there certainly are lots of those out there. I try to help Chevelle people where I can. Don't ever get up tight about what I say and send a PM if you have a problem. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I understand the objective, I don't care to nitpick cars to death either, but I certainly don't think this site would be nearly as helpful and informative as it is without the help and enthusiasm of many youthful individuals. Wasn't it Rob Clary himself who just turned 30?
I may have just been a twinkle in my father's eye when you were living the musclecar era, but I own, drive, and appreciate classic American muscle the same as you older guys. Touche, yes you are correct. NO pun intended on the generation here. I'm here to learn as everyone else. If I knew everything then Bill Gates would be working for me.
On the other hand, I'm not in the market for a 72 Chevelle or I would have done more research on the 72 cars. My opinion only and others may differ, but I think the 1970 was the last year of the true Muscle Car. That's taking in the horsepower and tough body lines. I love all Muscle cars and still own and drive them and will till the day I die. Some teens out there know nothing and don't want to know anything about the old muscle cars due to the cost. I know alot of them are into the rice burners.
I still remember one Fri night in 1974 when I was in a 68 Hemi Runner beside a 67 Camaro with a 427 in it. I thought I was going to air born. Those Hemis are quick cars but MCReview proved that the 440 6-pack and even the 70 Buick GS Stage II was a quicker car than the Hemi.

Yes, the "fan sticker" comments are a little much, but, in my mind, who cares. If you own a car and ask for opinions from this board, you'll get them, all of them, the helpful and not so helpful.
I own a 1971 TransAm painted Ferrari "fly" yellow with a Chevy big block(painted Pontiac blue with aftermarket everything and I smile knowing that some guys on this board are laughing with me, not at me about my car.

That's because nobody wants to stick their neck out and criticize one of the 'big gorillas' and then have their head handed to them by everyone else.
The unspoken rule is that there are the safe (and often defenseless) targets who are easy to gang-up on and then there are the 'big gorillas' that everyone knows are off-limits. It's typical of any gathering of people--we all know who we can dis and who we dare not dis for fear of being thrown out of the group.
What we need to preserve here is the right of all of us to respectfully disagree and to voice our disagreements in a respectful manner without fear of retribution.

I have to say that I really appreciate the "reviews" offered of cars for sale. I have learned more via "bashing" than any other way. When a guy puts a car up for sale and represents it as being perfect, awesome, numbers matching, factory original, numbers correct etc, it had better stand up to some scrutiny. If a guy lists a car that has an obviously swapped trim tag, are the guys in the know supposed to just ignore it? What if a car comes up and you are aware of the car, knowing it was a rebody? Not supposed to speak up? Most vehicles that are for sale are available for inspection. If a knowledgeable guy or gal on this board can point out some obvious flaws or mistakes made in the resto, then it might save someone a pile of money because they eliminate the car from consideration without having to hire an expert to go check it out.
Personally, I say scrutinization is great. Doesn't mean anyone has to get personal. If you put a car on here, describe it fully and fairly, and DISCLOSE known problems, flaws and incorrect items, you have nothing to worry about.
I did not find the original comment by MosportGreen66 to be "bashing" at all. If the car was recently offered, I would want to know what the previous owner said about it.
Just my 02 cents.
Lynn

If anyone has the link to last seasons final UFC with Griffin vs Bonnar. The major portion of this fight was standing up with fists. Not like some of the guys that fight like ladies and have to take their man down to the ground and wrestle. When I see this, that's when I wish the Contender was back on for another season. BTW that Griffin Bonnar fight was so good that both were awarded with a UFC Million dollar contract. That's the best fight I've seen ever.
I'd wrestle Stacy Keibler anytime.
