Hi all,
First off let me say what a great web site you have here. I found my way while trying to find out about 1969 Z-28 info. If I get lucky I might be going to look at a project car (unrestored partially disassembled) and would like to know of some of the more obvious signs like cowl tag numbers etc. Can you send away for vin history like the GTO guys? Also if it helps the car is in California (what factory could it have been from?). I am not getting my hopes up but would like to be ready to go look. I have known of the car since around 1978/79 and I am guessing there are alot more clones now than there were back then. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

20,000 members at Team Camaro someone might know the car or seller.

Also check out the folks over at The Camaro Research Group (CRG)

Click on 1969 Model ID at the top of their page.

On a side note just because its in Calif doesnt mean it has to be a LA car. Have to remember people move in and out of different states all the time and take cars with them. Only way you can get GM paperwork for the car if none is with it when you buy it is if its a Canadian sold car which GM of Canada would have to be contacted for that info, of course for a fee as well.

Jeff is right about CA cars and obtaining factory information on Canadian SOLD cars only through GM of Canada.
Camaro's were only built in two plants in 1969,Van Nuys and Norwood and the NOR cars are the only ones to list the X77or X33 on the trim tag unless it is a very early one. There are ways to determine if a Van Nuys car is a "performance car" (ie. an SS or Z/28 model)but it's not as cut & dried as a Norwood car is.

Good luck with your project if you get it and keep us posted.
