Cutting one loose from the stable is never easy and yesterday,I sold my '70 El Camino SS-454/M-22 car.Selling them is never easy to me because I envision myself as an owner & collector rather than a short-term owner/seller for profit.I buy what I like and therefore, never have to sell mearly because I'm tired of a particular car.The cars that I own are those I've always dreamed of owning and the rest of the stable is not for sale. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

This car was supposed to be for my wife to cruise and show when we planned something together that would enable us both to display a car. This really never materialized and after only 230 miles in 8 months on a fresh 454,obviously it was not being used to it's full potential so it has gone to a friend and a good home.I'll still be able to see it from time to time and I got a good price for it so I'm at peace with that.

The "good" part of the day came when I drove to one of my garages I house my '70 Z & my 70 Chevelle 454 in and started them both.We had a slight rain the night before so I wasn't planning on driving them, just starting them and admiring them and to see both cars side-by-side living and breathing certainly brightened my spirits. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Lastly,I sat in my freshly-restored '69 Z since that's all have done recently since the motor decided to take a s**t.Now with the El Cam gone,it's full-steam ahead on repairing (keeping my fingers crossed on that one that it's repairable http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif)the 302 and making it nastier than ever http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gifhttp://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif.

One must go so that the other can live...that seems like the way it is around here. When I get the '69 up and running,I'll post some pics of all three for all to see.

Thanks for letting me rant...I was just feeling a little down. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Being the sentient beings that we are, it is always good to be around our "babies" and experience them even if it is to just hear them rumble and take in the sweet smell of their exhaust. You have a fine stable of bowties. What a great place to have them with those misty (foggy too) cool mornings and windy roads. Attended NPS awhile back and fell in love with the area.

Now, show us some pictures!

Sam,

Yes,I need to post pics and I will soon.My '69 has a real Trans-Am look to it with the way I had the front grille & endura painted. You'd have to see it,hard to explain.

Yellow & Black looks downright mean!

The Monterey Peninsula,as you know,is a beautiful place to drive a nice classic and this wknd is no different.Beautiful weather and the Sports Car races are in town which is where I'm heading right now.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I'd like to see some pics of the Elco... I feel your pain http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif , I sold my 69 SS396 Camino last year in order to help put the funds together to buy my Yenko Deuce. I too never buy cars with the intentions of ever selling them, and had put alot of time and effort and $$$ into making it just the way I wanted it, only to have to do a "quick sale" of it right about the time I was finally happy with it. Oh well, I did what i had to, as I'm sure you did too... hopefully your buddy will take car of, and enjoy your elco and maybe even sell it back to you someday! I really think they are under-appriciated cars (trucks) and hope to have another one... someday.

Yes I know how you feel. I sold my LS-5 El-Camino 2 Years ago. Luckily now I have another 70 El-Camino. This one is a LS-6,4 Speed Black on Black. Hopefully I will never sell it.

John..although you needed to thin the heard, it seems as though there's plenty of muscle left in the barn! It's nice to see another Peninsula member, I live over in Salinas.I heard there's one more Seaside show this month. If you decide to go, let me know what your going to bring and I'll come say hello.

Jeff,

Another Peninsula musclehead, huh? Saw the Chicago reference in your bio, didn't know you lived in Salinas.Beautiful weather this weekend, wasn't it? The encore show is on the 28th. and it will feature the top picks of all the previous shows going head-to-head to determine the overall winner for 2005.I really planned on displaying the '69 this year until the motor blew http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif but now it'll be roaring again soon http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif.
What do you own?If I can attend,it'll have to be either the '70 Z or the '70 Chevelle since that's all I have running currently http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif.

Will be yanking the 302 out of the Camaro this wknd or next and then the wheels are turning as which way to go.I want to build a roller cam 302 with all the good internals.I'm sure I've probably seen you out and about in the past, just didn't know it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif.

camarojoe,

That is a beautiful El Cam! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

sent you a PM. Did you happen to head up to the old Marina Airport on Sat? I went to see if they were running go carts only to stumble acrossed an Antique Air show and car show. It was a small car show 20-30 cars...I was drooling over a really tricked out 62 Bubble Top with and LS-1.

4 or 5 P-51 Mustangs, Corsairs...one guy told me you could go for a power run in one of the P-51's....$600.00, alot less for some of the WW1 bi-planes. I was told the P-51's burn 400 gallons/ hr at full throttle. What a great weekend!

You know...I completely forgot to go to the Air Faire this wknd...got too busy with selling the El Cam and putting away old car magazines and books...finally.

If the '62 Bubble Top was Maroon Red,with late-model polished Corvette 5-spoke wheels,it was probably Jim Wards from Monterey Radiator. He has major $$$ in that car, someone told me over $100K in the interior! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Sorry I missed it,like you said, the weather was absolutely perfect!

I flew out to San Jose on Thursday to be on-site in Mountain View for work, and then Friday we had an off-site event up in San Francisco (our group went out on a catamaran on the bay).

Then for Friday night through Sunday morning, I was down in Salinas visiting one of my brother's. On Saturday we ended going for a long drive south on Route 1, down to Big Sur and then back.

Took about 700 pictures all together http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hey If any of you guys are ever out in the Sacramento area I sure could use some help getting the original owner of my '70 BM Vette to dig out any thing he can find on the car. He lives in Willits CA. near Ft Bragg. He has a bussiness there.

Seems like a nice guy just too busy to find me any pic of the car. You would think if you got something that expensive for you HIGH SCHOOL graduation present you would still have a pic somewhere.

Thanks guys

Pantera

I was at the Montery Pebble beach car show and the SCCA classic races one time and that is one neat event. Love the area. If I ever win the lottery I just might move there. LOL....

Our car club cruised down there about a month ago on an equally beautiful day.I really love going down the coast, especially in an american musclecar. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gifAll kinds of sports cars here for the American LeMans series @ Laguna Seca.Guess they didn't make it anywhere near Salinas though.

Pantera,

Good,we could use more Chevrolet muscle in these parts. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Can't help you in Sacramento but hopefully someone can...would be nice to have all the little "history" stuff on the car.

Yes,the Historics and Pebble Beach Event certainly are tons of fun (think Barrett-Jackson with beautiful scenary)and becomes larger each year. Now with all the auctions and car shows scattered all over the Peninsula,it is a car lovers weekend and certainly is a must-do at least once in a lifetime. Two years ago,3 of my high school buddies met in Monterey and had a wild weekend full of cars, stars, cigars and old Bordeaux http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif.Next year,we'll do it again, this time at B-J.No wifes, children,or worries...just a weekend filled with cars, stogies, and beer...my kind of weekend! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

P.S,Was watching re-runs of last years B-J...what did that B-M Corvette sell for? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

John there were 10 Phase III "GT"'s built according to Joel. One was a total loss in a fire in the make ready dept of Baldwin Chev before it could be delivered. A regular car next to it caught fire and it spread to it and both were a total loss. This was a 2 1/2 year spread best as I can determine. Joel then started to build the wilder Mako's.

Pantera

Of the 9 remaining cars only 5 have been accounted for and one of them is not documented yet. (my 69)

I am not able to do too much at the moment on it. I had a kitchen fire and am dealing with that at the moment. the ole lady doesn't want to try to fix the old place back up. Instead we are trying to buy 2 1/2 acres in the county to build a better workshop and a new home on. I may get to work on the car in the spring if I am lucky.

I am going to do the glass work on the RR where some jackass hit me years ago and that way it will be well cured by the time I get back to work on it.
