I sold it back in 1989, but I had an original 1968 Hemi Dart Super Stock car with 1/4 mile on the odometer. Neat car but very modified and fully tubbed, so I sold it to someone who could restore it properly.

'69 L89 SS Camaro with 7,362 miles. Paint Code 69 69 Cortez Silver, Vintage Camaro Certified @ '05 Camaro Nationals.

Funny thing about this one is that racing usually killed cars like these but in this instance, because this car was used as a bracket racer, it survived.

Apparently, since it was an original, it was also "very modified and fully tubbed" from the dealership http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

An "original" hemi dart would mean that it was one of the actual batch of 75 or so Hemi Darts built by Hurst for Chrysler Corporation back in '68, for Super Stock racing. Modified in this case means that it was cut and hacked to accomodate all the stuff that made it competitive even after 20 years of racing. I believe that when they were delivered to the racers from the factory, they did not have any speedometer cables. My car was a four speed and the aluminum cased, A-833 four speed trans had a steel plug in the speedo gear hole, so there was nothing to hook the cable up to.

Bob, what did that car end up being. The photos look for it to be a 409 or 327-300HP car. Either way very cool. Besides that low mileage, any other indications of a race history?

Belair62
10-20-2005, 09:19 PM
Return line from original sending unit to firewall and ballast resisitor indicates it's an 09. 409 script holes are above the fender flags. I have a set of repop scriptrs and they slip right in !!! I will have to take a ton of pics and work with Verne Frantz closely. He knows what to photograph and look for...so far..it's a 9. No indication of race history but haven't been able to really crawl around looking for stuff..I doubt it..

How about the ProTeam "Entombed" 1954 Corvette.
It was bought new, driven 2331 miles and then parked inside a Hardware store where the owner had bricks & morter walled up around it and it sat for a few decades. It was supposed to be unearthed in 2000,but they had to renovate the building,so the Corvette was prematurely removed and parked in the living room belonging to the daughter of the deceased, until it went to auction.

Pretty cool car, Stripe Delete, radio delete, steel wheels, black bubble, its a late may car so having a factory black bubble is kinda rare. Its got papers, copy of original title etc..Galen has seen the car, its beleived to be the lowest mile Hemi Cuda out there. Ive actually been pondering with the idea of taking it to Barrett this year but I heard there sold out now..curious to see what it would bring.

I saw a 3,000 original mile, fully documented, original owner, 1970 LS-6 Chevelle yesterday, Raced real hard back in the day and has been sitting for 30 years. If you didnt know the mileage you would swear it had about 200,000 on her, racing really sucks the life out of them. Original motor is on a stand with a big hole in her where she sucked up a valve.

Tough crowd, some beautiful cars and low miles. Mine is not quite so low 20K 70 Z28 bought from original owner all documented miles, He put on about 5K the first year then a little less every year after. Had sat for over 20 year when I discovered it a year ago. Car had not been touched, hard to believe but the owner wasn't a car guy and knew very little about the car so never messed with it (thank God!!) All original down to the tires and the M22 4:10 deluxe cloth interior. Best part it was 20 miles from my home!!

One of our customer's stopped in on Friday. He still has the '69 Camaro SS 396-375 that he bought new. Car has just over 7000 original miles on it. Two things have been replaced on it - the original tires he said lasted 3000 miles and the engine. He blew-up the original engine and when he went back to the selling dealer for warranty he was declined http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif. He said "we'll see about that!". He called a friend in GM and had a replacement 427 (said he could have a 427 for the same cost as a 396) at the dealership the next morning http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif. CRazy story...no way to confirm or figure out...car was parked in 68...drivetrain gone...new shift parts from Chevrolet to convert 4 speed to 3 on tree...1962 235 6 cyl put in its place but doesn't look to ever have run with this engine..409 emblems look to have been broken off with a screwdriver and the holes filled with plumbers putty and a dab of paint ! The original lacquer is polishing up nice...strange car...wish it could talk. Believe buildsheet ,if there was one and likely there was...probably tossed when they installed plastic..gas tank has 3 inches of varnish....it has sat untouched for 38 years or so...don't want to restore it just clean it up...working with Verne Frantz to document stuff...the firewall has a book written in crayon !

Bob... thats the original lauquer? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
What products did you use to buff it out?
It could not have been too abrasive...
No 3M products... spill it buddy... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Meguires...I used the medioum grit stuff and the machine glaze...the paint has plenty of imperfections but it shines like brand new...you can see by the before pic that it wasn't stored in the best conditions...at least it was inside...amazing what 35 years of dust and dirt looks like on a car...there was a 1966 LOOK magazine and a paperback book on the rear package shelf...when I move it..there was clean spots underneath...and I can't get the rest of the shelf to match it...it was a rear speaker car too...very odd car.

BTW...nice speaker cover...is that dust or is it faded?
