OK, over the past year or so I have come to appreciate the knowledge of the people who comment on this site. Therefore I would like your opinion on something.
Today in my business travels working in Boston, I came across a 1968 Original Z28. It has 44K documented miles, and has no PS, but AM radio, original tranny (M21) rear, and original 302 engine and is british racing green. Owner has owned it for 15 years and the engine is highly detailed, and has the smog equipment still attached. Original wheels, and tires as well. Body is in excellent shape and only one fender has been replaced due to a wreck in 1970.
Original owner is still available for comment and further documentation.Interior is in perfect conditio n as well. I, not being an expert, would call the car a #2 condition car.
The current owner (2nd owner) drives it about 80 miles per year and it takes up needed space in a building he now needs.
The car was originally sold in OK and the salesperson who sold the car in 1968 to the original owner is still at the dealership after all this time, yet is now the Sales Manager. He remembers selling it to the owner. Perhaps additional documentation possible here as well.
I was unable to get pictures at the time I stumbled on the car. He is asking around $40K for the car. My question, based on the limited information I have given you is, what is the car worth, and is $40K in the ballpark?
Thanks for your comments.

Mike, Without seeing it I love what you are telling me. If it is real and restored CORRECTLY and you like it......to me a good price. Especially with the documentation from all the people that remember or owned the car. 35,000-40,000 for a legit musclecar. Buy it!!! Thats my opinion. Its not a 69 but very desirable. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I own a 68 Z28 that is Diamond Certified. I keep an eye on the prices of the 68's. If the car is as you describe it is well worth it.

Sounds like the car has a lot of potential and has been well cared for.The possibilty of additional documentation is just music to my ears and only adds to the upside of this car.
Considering just how rare these cars are,$40K seems very in line to me...in fact it might just be a steal.
Good luck and post pictures if you get it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Early on, the desirable 1968 cars were frowned upon. Today, original, unmolested examples approach the value of a similar 1969 car.
I've always enjoyed my 68 RS/Z28 Driver.

Well I have a minor update. I had dinner with the owners partner tonight. He said that the car is immulaculate (spell that right?).
He said that the owner of the camaro goes through cycles of sell, keep it, sell, keep it. He thought that he may be serious this time. The car is as nice as I described, but is not, (I do not think) an RS Z, just a Z28. based on this, and that it has no console, just shifter, , am radio, but rear spoiler, the $40K price is right for this car?
All of the car engine, tranny, rear, and all other parts are original to the car with 44K miles.
I will call him tomorrow and see how firm he is on the prce and if he is serious a bout selling.
AND if I get a chance to go out there I will take some pictures.
Top dollar for the car today is????_____________
thanks guys,
Mike

I just purchased a 68 Z last week. Same color, and sounds very similar in condition to yours. Mine has the Plenum option.
all the owners are still around too.
I paid $44K. And was happy to do it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I would rather someone add the RS option then remove it. Still an original Z. Buy it! Your spliting hairs here. Don't get cold feet. Offer 35,000 see what he says. JMO Sam http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
And after you offer that 35K,cover your crotch area immediately.

It's a '68 Z/28 (and it sounds like a nice one at that)for christ sakes man...DON'T EVEN HESITATE. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
Don't even think about offering him less either,it'd just piss him off anyway.
Give the man what he wants and post some pics soon.
Good luck http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

OK, OK, just the kind of positive advice I needed from the pros.
I did fail to mention I tried to find the bottom yesterday before I posted anything. I was very nice about it and told him that I did not want to offend him and said that I could offer him $30K for the car w/out all the docs. He was nice about it and said thanks but no thanks.
I will call today and raise the bar a notch as suggested, and then try to give a deposit.
Let you know later
Thanks again.

Mike, give him a call tonight, and tell him that you will give him 40k for it. Since he is the type of owner that keeps it, puts it up for sale, keeps it, and is unsure, give him the asking price and buy it. The longer you wait, the more time he has to think about wether he wants to sell it or not.

$30K ain't gonna buy this car as you found out.
If you really want this car hopefully you haven't pissed this guy off where he won't sell it to you.
Give the man his $40K while he still wants to sell the car... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

If you came in the summer, fog is probably all you saw.Good weather for Monterey (yes we do have some http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif)is Nov-Jan usually.Good thing about this area is you don't have to go far if you want sun, generally to Carmel Valley or sometimes down the coast towards Big Sur.
Lotta beauty here, that's for sure but it could be a tad warmer for my blood.
I have a buddy who works at a big Chevy dealer in Superstition Springs and lives in Mesa. He's got a '69 SS clone in LeMans Blue.We will be there next year for B-J. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

In July 04, my son sold his 68 Z-28 CORVETTE Bronze, black standard, no gauges, vinyl top, that he restored from 2000 thru 2003. It has its original engine, missing smog, but was a very nice car with no paperwork. Got $40000 cash. The new owner turned down $48000 over Labor Day weekend.
Don't waste time. It is better than your 2% CD. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

OK< OK< I called him today on the 68 Z28 and he was out. I had to fly home today from Boston to Atlanta, and I will call him first thing in the morning and make him the 40K offer as all on the site has basically ordered me to do.
And if he takes it, I expect my new found investment partners to thelp me with what it needs (if anything) if and when it get it and can post pictures.

The current owner still needs to fix the rear stripes so they don't show on the lip of the trunk lid. And yes, I still work on it and hang around with the guy. I sold it in 1974.
