I am pleased to announce that Jim Mattison is tentative scheduled to attend SCR9. Jim's resume reads like a story book for us car folks. While attending college he began working for Chevrolet, in all places, the COPO department. Jim has many interesting stories to tell about his time at Chevrolet, including one of his company cars, a 1969 ZL-1 Camaro.
After leaving GM, Jim was involved with SLP, and most important, at least to the Pontiac community, Jim was involved with setting up the Pontiac Historical Services.
As of late, Jim has been working with GM in hopes of setting up a similar service for Chevrolet built cars. Hopefully, by the time SCR9 rolls around, if not sooner, Jim will have good news to report in regards to a CHS.
A couple of other notes about Jim, while at GM, he became good friends with Don Yenko, often times hanging out with him when Don would come to town for meetings with the GM brass. Through the years, being a car guy and all, Jim has been fortunate enough to latch onto several rare musclecars. Plans are for Jim to bring one of them to SCR9, to do a little test and tune before making an appearance at the Pure Stock Drags.
I would urge anyone with a COPO, especially a ZL-1, to do their best to attend SCR9, as Jim has a wealth of knowledge in regards to these cars.
Dang, wish I had a ZL-1.
