A friend of mine in Gainesville Ga. told me that he made a commitment purchase the white RS B/M Camaro that I believe was down in La. & (maybe) talked about on this forum a while back. The initial asking price was 85K then jumped to 125K & he said it had 'the letter from Joel' but the seller never sent a copy of the letter only a couple of pics. Was this Camaro ever determined to be real? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
He told me that it was sold to someone else yesterday.

I recall a webpage about this car five or so years back. It never talked about any documentation and was put up by the owner's girl friend. It was something like "Kajun Kat's Camaro"

Both Kevin S. and I tried to contact the owner, but never got an answer. Sounds fishy, but never say never.

This one I believe:

I never got a response from the contact info from that site at the time either.

That was the car.

I would have my doubts about that being an original BM car.
That looks like a Ecklers Aftermarket L-88 hood to me!

Also, way back then I don't recall seeing any with the stripe going any further forward than the 67 427 Vette hood scoop which is also missing. Not to mention the "Motion" emblems that belong on the sides of the hood.

Also it has a Pontiac TA spoiler. Those were almost impossiable to come by back in '69. Also his cars were not jacked up in front that much were they?

It looks neat, but just something doesn't feel right about the look of the car to me, as far as one of Joel's is concerned.
Perhaps it is the later wheels that make it not look "Right".

Pantera, the Green/White "Mexican" Camaro that was owned by Otis Chandler has the same paint scheme and L-88 hood as this white car. I haven't seen a '69 with the Motion emblems on the body. The emblems seem to have come out in very late 69.

So does anyone have a pic out of the magazines that show that hood from back then? I obviously am not up on the Camaro's like I am on the vettes.

Joe do you have the low down. Otis's car may not have been correct. I know I have heard stories about some questionable Camaro in a collection. Was it that same car?

Otis Chandler's 69 BM Camaro was legit and in fact still had the original window sticker attached to the window.

Otis' car was all original. Here are a few pics.. This is the only 69 BM Camaro I've seen with the center stripe all the way to the front edge (originally).
COPO.. what, if any, stripes are on your '69? I've haven't seen yours yet.
The "green meanie" '69 small block car also had the L88 hood, but had 2-Z28 stripes on it.
I can't remember seeing any other legit BM cars with the L88 hood. All other 69s (that I've seen) had the stinger or Z28 Cowl hood, except the original hood on Kevin S's Yellow/Black SS427 which looks like a Stinger Scoop molded to a flat hood but was a 1 piece fiberglass hood.
the car Otis had:

L88 hood was available for 69 and 70 chevelle and camaro; paint scheme varied per custom order; some restoration work has been done to the green RS camaro but stripes are http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif correct; IMO original photos essential to fully document a real BM car

The yellow car is more like I thought all of them were like. Seems more like what Joel did back then. Was the Otis car a late 69?

I think this pic of a 68 BM Camaro is more what I thought all the hoods and paint schemes were like. Of course the customer was king.... Sorry I caused such a stir..

Here are some pics of other legit '69 Motions. They were all pretty unique. Most all of the clones I've seen were modeled after the green/white car... (like the white/black one that started this thread) ...or one of the Ertl Diecasts most of which sport that paint scheme..

I was wondering the same thing. The picture on the last page shows the same car in the showroom badged as an SS.

Makes you wonder,

The car in the show is the same car shown above that had the white hockey stripe and different wheels. Note the vinyl top. The COPO looking car is a totally different car. Story on the triple black SS car was the owner (I think it's the one Joe Oldham ordered new that was stolen within a few weeks) wanted it without the hockey stripes but GM wouldn't deliver it that way so they were removed by Motion and the car looked so mean Joel wanted it in his auto show display.

one more of the COPO.. I think I have the story on it, I'll have to look.

More on the Motion/COPO.. The pics are from an article featuring the installation of the Hone OD. It sure looks like a COPO. 427/Auto, hone, 4:56 rear. It's an Auto on the Column car. Here is a pic of the interior with the hone lever mounted on the driver side.

Spoke w/ my buddy that tried to buy the car. He got a copy of the letter, dated 5/26/96, confirming that it's real. He was also told that Mecum bought it. Personally, I don't know if this is true or not. Guess we'll see....

Hi Performance CARS, November 1969.

Great issue, '70 Musclecar previews, Boss 429 hop ups, Dodge Daytona Road Test, plus the Hone-O-Drive article with the Motion-ized COPO. Article says owner Marc Cohen drove the 4.56 geared car back to his home in Ohio from New York, and referred to it as a Phase III car. Doesn't really say if it was a Baldwin purchased car or if he brought it in to be Phase III tuned. Either way, you'd think Joel and company would have noticed a non-SS factory big block car as being something out of the ordinary.....

OK - Here is the "rest of the story" on the car this post was started on:

I was the buyer on the white "Baldwin Motion" car , previously in Louisiana. I purchased it through a lead from Mecum, I was the buyer and not Mecum. I was provided a poor copy of the 5/24/1996 letter from "Joel Rosen". The seller was supposed to have the original with the car.

Yesterday, my associate went to pick up the car in person, with a bag of cash as was requested by the seller. The original letter was now not present and the seller(s) offered no guarantee that they could get it. This concerned me greatly as you would imagine.

At 10 pm last night, I decided to do my due diligence and told my associate to grab a hotel and tell the sellers we would finish the deal in the morning, because I wanted to research the origins of this letter.

Mr. Joel Rosen was kind enough to look at the copy I had via fax. Within minutes, Joel called me back and declared the letter was not only a forgery, but a bad one at that! He absolutely guaranteed the car is NOT real, nor is the letter. Needless to say, my money and empty trailer is heading back to Milwaukee as we speak.

SO, in an effort to save others from the money and trouble I have wasted on this fraudulent "Baldwin Motion Phase III", I am making this post. Please spread the word.

The car is a white 69 Camaro, VIN 124379L501461. And, to further document, the NICB report is BLANK. This car is a UFO!

Hope this helps. Joel Rosen has said he is happy to confirm any details if people are still skeptical.

Best regards,
Colin Comer

Colin, glad to hear you did not get burned on the car. One red flag was it being a LOS car which would certainly decrease the possibility of it being sold new in Long Island.

Thanks for sharing with everyone the information, so someone else does not get taken. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Wasn't there a Camaro bought at auction a few years ago that was supposed to be a Motion car, it had a letter from Joel and turned out to be a fake (the letter and the car). For some reason I thought the car was a white RS car. It was posted here a few years and I believe a member bought it and did return it and get a refund. Could this be the same car?

No that car was a 1967 Camaro and the NICB report showed it came from the Midwest and not Baldwin Chev. and I seem to recall that discussions with the original owner proved it was a 307 car originally. It was discussed on this site way back. you might find the thread with a search, but it was several years ago.

Was that the car that sold at Auburn, was rejected, then showed up at Barrett Jackson and sold in the on-site car lot there? Maybe 2 years ago?

I thought that car looked kind of suspicious.. Good work Colin. I've not seen two legit '69 Motions look the same and this white one looks way too much like the green one (which was built to order by the original owner).. Looks like the only reference material used in making this white fake car was pictures of the green/white one or maybe an Ertl diecast.. Who bets it'll end up on Ebay next? Looks like a fun car to just go beat the crap out of though..

Charlie (COPO)... what are the specs on your '69 BM? hood, colors, stripes..etc?

Well, my memory about the faked 67 BM Camaro was not exactly perfect, but close. I did find the original post on the car.
