Just heard Ray Allen's 70 LS6 convert will be auctioned off at BJ Scottsdale in Jan 2006. Very low 62 mile ex-dragcar restored to showroom stock. Could bring major $$$. Guessing a million or better. Please post the link for me. Lot #1287 on Bj website. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

With both cars currently on the market, wouldn't it be great to see the Jack Werst Hemi Superbird that was built to take out Ray Allen go across the auction block at BJ-2006? The two cars that never got to race each other meeting up on an auction block 35 years later would be great to see. I wonder which car would bring more.

I bet Barrett Jackson will win on both accounts.
Would be cool to see these two cars battle it out on the block. I'm sure neither owner thought this day would come after 35 years. Amazing both cars survived. Who's going to BJ?

Kevin, Do you have any pics of engine compartment and interior of the Chevelle?

I feel like it was almost sacreligious to "restore" this car to stock configuration... Its like taking the Mona Lisa and "restoring" it back to a blank white canvas...It would be awesome to see this car get converted BACK to the look of its glory days.

But how cool would it be to plunk down the big coin for it, drag it home and proceed to tear into it like it was "just another new Chevelle" same as Ray did? There seems to be an extensive photo history of this car, you could even do it in stages as Ray did originally. I bet Ray could even be convinced to participate in the conversion for old time's sake.

I agree...the car deserves to be restored in race trim, but maybe it's something that should be left to the new owner/racer. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif Now who's got the coconuts to make it happen?

Yes, I do have pics of the engine compartment and interior as a Drag Car. It had a Lakewood 3-point cage, Hurst Auto/Stick on the floor, Moroso mechanical tach on the wheel and SW gauges hanging on the dash above the heater controls. These pics are part of magazine articles printed in May 71 CarCraft and Dec 70 Super Stock and Drag Illustrated. They are posted on another website if you search for them. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

A buddy of mine owns the car and is taking it to BJ. At SEMA he told me he is doing one side of the car with all of the decals, wheels, tires, etc. to replicate its racing days, the other side stock LS6. So the new owner only has to change whichever half he (or she?) doesn't like! Should be interesting.

Colin, do you know if those decals will be magnetic? What about the suspension and other race mods, will they be on the car or not? Very interesting.

The LS6 is a neat car with lots of history but I doubt it will get to the million mark. The Superbird as well unless one guy picks both up for a Mil total

Colin, Is it true that Ray has sold the Chevelle? Or is Ray your buddy? Who is taking the car to BJ? Half "Drag Car" and half "Restored Original"? That is going to sit crooked at BJ. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

------Yah, Colin,,,What he said. Will one wheel well be trimmed out and one not??? One 14/32 and Cragar on one side of the rear and one SS wheel and Uniroyal on the other??? Spool on one side and not on the other........HUH???? Well, that might be just a bit odd. Traction might suffer a bit........Bill S

Jeeze, guys, just telling you what he told me. I think he is doing removable decals and obviously not trimming sheetmetal!!! I asked about how it would sit and he said he was "working on that". I presume the car will be on a display, ie, not on its wheels??

I do beleive he bought the car from Ray. But, I only chatted with him over a quiet game of poker, I might have missed something. LOL

Colin could you imagine what your buddy Allen D will say in his BJ commentary when this car runs across the block as a half and half? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I sure hope he doesn't open the cowl induction "Bonnet" and try to explain how the cold air is pressurized at the base of the "Windscreen" before it is introduced into the carb then into the al-um-in-ni-um intake manifold. They really need to get someone who knows American Musclecars to explain the features of these cars.
