That's very heartbreaking to see but hopefully it will be saved. I'd say more than likely the real thing but wish there were a few more photos.

I think one of the Z 16 guys ..Terry lives out that way...

I live less than 5 miles from the seller. I sent a message asking to see the car in person.
I'm no expert, but it sure seems like it meets the criteria for a real Z-16.
Be nice to see the cowl tag too for the 4FM code.
Even the VIN# is in the correct time frame.
That looks like D&P Classic Chevy in Huntington Beach.

It took me 2 hours of talking before the guy would admit to owning the car, then he did not want to show it to me. So there are no pictures. And no I won't tell anyone where it is. I made a promise to the owner not to throw him to the wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look closely you can see the clutch pedal is still there. Not all Z-16's had wood wheels.
Brian
That's not the authentic console,so don't be mislead.
It's obviously been molested, but who knows.

The steering wheel in the car isn't original anyhow, its a 69-72 Chevy pickup wheel. The trim in the trunk looks legit, as does the speedo... If its not real it got some real stuff thrown in that would be very hard to find otherwise... I'm betting its legit... but will wait to see if he actually posts trim tag info.

They all had the 4F code for Z13 Comfort and Convenience package (Type B) which included Outside Remote Mirror, Inside Non-Glare Mirror, 2 speed electric windshield wipers and washers.
and the M for the Z16 Package.

Well, he has more pictures available on there now. Looks to be the real thing. He must have taken the pictures according to the questions that people asked. With about 3,000 views I'll bet he got a lot of e-mail, probably gonna get a whole lot more. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Sorry for the strong reply Scott! I probably had to much to drink that night http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif I used to own one of those cars back in the 80's and learned alot about them. My car had something else that i never hear anybody say but it had a provision under the dash molded in the metal part for a mechanical choke http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif It also had pwr windows, steering, brakes, tilt wood wheel and the multiplex! Red/black top. Still know where it is. Happy holidays to you and your family.

All Z16s had the remote mirror. Tilt, wood wheel, power windows and vinyl top (and exterior and interior colors) were ONLY options.

This is the same deal with restoring a badly beaten super car... your preserving/saving a VIN #.

11-29-2005, 05:36 PM
Like many ZL1s, most Z16s don't have the original engine and/or drivetrain. Also like the ZL1, it doesn't make them any less collectable. The Z16 has an incredible number of special, unique chassis parts. Like any desirable, valuable car, ANY legit Z16 is worth restoring - I hope we don't get into the "replace the handle, replace the bit - is the axe still original" debate again......http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I have to agree and brings up the old question again. Just because much of the car is missing, does it warrant crushing a piece of history? I would much rather see the car in a museum with the wrong drive train then see it get crushed because much of it is missing.

Never said the car was not worth Restoring.. just not Worth as much as the same car in same condition with the original drivetrain. As it stands now, to me.. it's a 65 Chevelle. Just my opinion gentlemen, nobody has to agree, it's what makes the hobby and the world so wonderful.. we can all agree to disagree and have different opinions without disliking each other for that opinion! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mrrec, what shape was the black z-16 that just sold for 120,000 that needed a complete resto compared to this and do you have a guess on how much this will go for? It only has a day left so we will see if if meets the reserve price.

I'm told the black car was complete, orig paint, but needing complete resto. The eBay car should be in the $50k ballpark, but it takes a great deal of education and determination to find all the right stuff to restore it into a $150k car (which it will be easily).

There was a supposed black -red car out here in primer at a resto shop for years that just sold several times recently. Anybody here of one coming out of Ca. in the last 6 months ?

Charlie:
I believe that is the car - I forgot that the previous owner had started on the body. I bought a Z16 block from him. The car went to Kansas City for just a few months, then sold again and now in Tenn or SC, I think.

Yes. Ron is a friend of mine. The one with the Corvette knockoffs is still out here and owned by another guy I know named Chris D. He does restos and has owned a couple of the Z16's. The other one he had he sold years ago to someone in Cape Cod.

-------Guy on Cape Cods first name is Wayne. One of the nicest guys on earth and a good, good, long time friend, like back to 1968, when he came to look at my 67 SS Tahoe T Chevelle for sale. He restored that triple black Z16. Havent seen it in years but, typically for the area of Cape Cod where he lives, the restos go backward relatively quickly even with little or no use! He has several other very rare cars, one of which he bought from my brother thru me back in 68/69 timeframe.
-------Know Chris too. Topnotch! He just finished up a resto on a yellow, original engine, one owner Z16 of another friend of mine in Dallas. Saw it last week. Needs a bit of touch-up on the paint, surprisingly, but a super resto otherwise.
-------That K-O car of his is bitchin. Sits way CQQL!!!.........Bill S
