I just saw this on Ebay. The seller says there is some documentation including a partial build sheet but doesn't show it in the auction.

I know of a car just like the one shown that was built here in Calgary about 3-1/2 years ago. It was a clone car built right down to the smallest detail and endured a beautiful frame off restoration. That car in the eBay ad sure looks like it. Right color, right interior, right everything. If anyone is looking at this car, check out the VIN, and I'll try to confirm if it's the same car. It was sold into the SE USA and I wouldn't doubt the chance of it resurfacing as a real car one of these days. Beware of this one since the seller shows no conclusive proof of VIN or originality.

If any one is interested in buying this car I SRONGLY suggest viewing this car in person or having it inspected . A "chevelle resto" shop in camas did the assembly on this car ,which from what I remember came out of Oklahoma in pieces. This shop is "well known" around here for his work http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif But I have heard through the grapevine that it is supposed to be a real LS6. I do not think it is the same car out of Calgary it has been around here longer then that I think.

-------How many of these did they actually build,,,,really??? I only ask because I just looked at another one that has been driver-style restored last week. Red automatic car that the owner has had for 24 years. Probably will never be for sale. Hope this isnt a hi-jack,,,if so I apologize........Bill S

Nobody knows how many were actually built originally.
Only Chevrolet or maybe Fisher Body can tell us for sure, and today they have no clue.
Most like to guesstimate.I remember when the number 18 was gospel, now look where we are.
From my own findings,I know of 30 real authentic, documented (Chevrolet Built) 1970 LS-6 convertibles left standing today.
I am sure they are still a few more real ones out there, but the clones still outnumber them.

This poster has been out awhile and gives best educated guess on 70 SS converts as....

L34 - 1088
L78 - 46
LS5 - 91
LS6 - 95

A similar 70 LS6 convert with body off resto sat at a dealership in MO for quite awhile....same color combo but probably not the car in question as it was stated as a clone. I last saw it at another dealership website recently but can't remember which one.

This is NOT the car from Calgary. The Calgary car was built by a very talented enthusiast.

Options on the car were:
PW
PT
PDL
P Seats on pass also, including seat backs
AM-FM 8Track
Tilt

It had an original LS6 with a 427 intake. The M22 was from a rolled ElCamino. It still resides in PA with the same person who bought it out of Calgary.

The car was sold as a clone and the new owner is very satisfied with the car and knows what it is. The car was discussed a couple of years ago here when it was shown and had many heads shaking. The option list would have been a key sign for the knowledgable.

Cool car built by a cool owner for a cool new owner, nuthin more, nuthin less.

The current owner always displays the car as a clone as well and refuses to make people think anything other than that. Very nice guy as well.

Well I asked for the build sheet and it is a complete fake.

The first clue was that the only part of the entire build sheet missing was the final six digits of the VIN. It was also overly crumpled.

The UM1 option was missing RADIO
The U27 option was missing the E in GLOVE
The B96 option was missing the D in MLD

If you are interested, do your homework.

Re: 70 LS-6 Convertible on Ebay

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I built that car, it has no m22 it does not whine. The business that built it is a scam. He has screwed many people. The car was purchased back east with a copy of the build sheet. None of the panels line up. Many parts are incorrect. I drilled the hole in the firewall for the tach wire.It has a crap paint job, most of the detail is spray paint, I am pretty sure it's a bench seat car.The business went bankrupt beware of anything from this seller. The picture of the background is what used to be R and R Racing up in Brush Prairie by the chevron. This guy ruined my life. The interior colors don't match some white some pearl.

If you are using the wording on buildsheets to compare then you have to use another "known" valid sheet from the same production plant..ie: if the car in question was supposed to be built at Baltimore then you couldn't use a sheet from Leeds...only from Baltimore. The different plants worded their RPO descriptions differently. I'm not saying the car in question isn't a fake or clone or whatever you want to call it, as it appears to be one.

Is this the blue LS6 convert with the very early build date that the Chev connection in Portland had ?

If true, not a reputation to be proud of that's for sure.

I do not think so Charley.I think they used Youngs car as guide to what they thought this car was going to be worth. At one time they told me they wanted $300,000 The car belongs to a customer of the shop that put the car together and listed it,after the owner yanked it from a shop in OKL if I remember the state right about 5 years ago or so .I havenever seen the car but heard alot about it.Car has been on the road less then two years and I heard owner had a fender bender earlier this year or so with a fender replaced at least They always kept saying it was a real car because of the build sheet but now I see that even looks iffy.No suprise here.
