That looks a bit light colored or do they come in different shades. I mean are some called by their color and then diamondback like this one would be something like a blonde diamonback or light brown or what. Still would not want to jump in the water with it though but then I do swim where there are sharks just the same

That rattler has nothing on the cotton-mouths here in the sticks...we have both around here, and those cotton-mouths are plum mean...they'll go after ANYTHING! Tractors, horses, people, whatever...only good snake is a dead snake...

Man, it must have been really hot if the snakes are jumping in the pool! I bet it's all the scorpions that bring the snakes around. The only thing we have to worry about are PA driver's here in NJ! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not hot at all..in fact it was in the high 30's last night...only supposed to get up to 65 today. If Mark's pool is heated, then that would explain why the snake was in it.
My pool is 55 degrees now! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Dont forget about the Copperheads plus the Timber Rattler... I hate snakes as well, and Rob is not stretching the truth about the snakes in MO, they will go after anything. I had one just this last Summer go after my wheel on my mower but the next lap my mower got the best of him.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I actually don't mind snakes at all. We mostly have rattlesnakes and bullsnakes in this part of WA state. I have been known to stop my car when there is a snake lying across the road, and grab a stick and pull it off to the side so nobody drives over it. The rattlers and bullsnakes love the warm roads here in the summer, and they are great for mice control.

Reminds me of when I lived in Florida. Being an attorney I have always had a "professional courtesy" relationship with other reptiles so I never had a problem with snakes outside my house, especially the 7 foot long Indigo snake that lived under our chimney. (For those of you that dont know, the Indigo snake is the the largest domestic constrictor (it's non-venomous) in the continental United States. It's also on the endangered species list -they are great to have around because all they eat are poisonous snakes) In 7 years of him living under our chimney we never saw another snake in the yard...and we lived in the boondocks.
Anyway, one day Im sitting on the patio and I hear my 2 year old say "look at the pretty colors" as she is reaching to pick up a four foot long Coral Snake (the most poisonous snake in the continental United States and probably in the top 10 deadliest in the world). Well anyway, at that point professional courtesy goes out the window and I grabbed it by the tail (Crocodile Hunter-style) and tossed it outside the house and womped it to death with a tree limb.
Since childhood I have always remembered the old saying on how to identify the poisonous Coral snake by which colors border which on its back: "Red touch yellow, kill a fellow. Red touch black, good for Jack."
And after that I did give that Indigo snake a good talking to for missing that Coral Snake. I guess he was getting lazy in his old age.

We rarely see snakes here in PA, so when I did see one a year or two ago - I just had to poke it with a stick. Hmm... not my brightest moment, nice Copperhead http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

When I lived in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands we had no snakes. We had mongoose which was like a giant rat with great big teeth and they ate all the snakes. They also ate birds too so there arent too many of those around either..Now we need a mongoose that eats those 2 legged snakes http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

This has nothing to do with the thread, but the roadkill part.........Down in Jamaica they built a new road from MoBay to Negril and the contract was awarded to a Korean firm.....well after a couple of years they went bankrupt and all the Korean workers went back home..........................It was then that the Dog population on that side of the started to come back to normal.....it took the Jamaicans that long to figure out why their dogs were disappearing.........
