Is there a pin or key that goes from the reduction unit to the speedo gear? I still can't get mine to work properly http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Marlin, Attached is pic of the key that goes inside the gear and reduction unit, it is 1 13/16" long. If you can't get it working, just sell me the damn old Nova.

Albert.

Well, almost. You have a 69 Chevelle and it's a bit different on a few ratios than the Camaro! For a 4.10 rear end with F70x14 tires and a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission, you'll need the following:

3924098 8 tooth drive gear
3860342 19 tooth driven gear (neutral color)
3932220 Adapter

I didn't see your reference to the COPO Chevelle above. Sorry about that!

And by the way, GM didn't use a Stewart Warner reducer. That's an aftermarket item.

What do you need a speedometer for anyway, to see how fast your going up the trailer ramp?? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Thanks Jeff, those are the pieces that I have - so I guess I'm not missing any. I'll have to recheck it - again.

Mr.Rose - get your hiney to a SCR, you'll see why we need speedo's http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Our Chevelle with the M20 has the straight reducer rather than the right angled one.

Our reducer has Stewart-Warner on both ends and is original to the car unless some sneaky devil switched it. With 4:10 gears you would be winding it pretty tight to go off the end of the speedometer scale. I found the speed warning buzzer handy though. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ed..I've never seen anything but a Stewart Warner brand used on the Ass.line for this item. Both on survivor vehicles and in the manuals.
Can you show paper or pix to contradict this?

I have several that only have an AC logo on them with no SW wording. They are the 90 degree type.

Only speaking of the 4:10 equipped Chevelles, the Stewart Warner gear is the only one I have ever seen on all the original cars as well. On a side note, I recently had a neighbor ask for help taking a 305 and Turbo 350 out of a 80's something Buick wagon and that also had this exact same reducer on it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Rick (Mr70),

No, I have no documentation showing only the "AC" Adapter being used. I've just always assumed (and perhaps incorrectly), that Chevrolet only used AC adapters. I've also always assumed that the conversion cars from Dana, Nickey, Yenko, etc... "May" have used an adapter other than an AC product (Stewart Warner in this case). If this is incorrect, then I appologize. The P&A doesn't show a manufacturer of any of the adapters, so in this case, the "good book" is useless!!
