Before I start I did post on NastyZ to...

I removed the spoiler off my 72 Z/28 today and found some interesting stuff. The car currently has a bad teal MACCO paint job but is supposed to be Mulsanne Blue.

1) The spoiler looks to have been added on as the holes look hacked. So I guess my car was a no spoiler car. Also, I don't know how the tension bars work on 2nd gens. With the spoiler on the trunk doesn't stay up well.

2) The center section of the spoiler has 1-25-1 marked on the inside over mulsanne blue paint (Original paint?). I am guessing that considering the markings this spoiler was off a 71 Camaro which was Mulsanne blue...

Anyway now on to my question. If a Z was spoiler delete does that mean no Z/28 emblem on the rear anywhere? Someone along the way placed what seems to be a fender emblem on the rear panel between the license plate and taillights.

Anyone know how rare is a no spoiler Z for 72? Stripe delete car to... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

In 1972 for the first time the rear spoiler was actually an option instead of standard equipment. The front spoiler would be included if your ordered the rear spoiler option.

So your car could have been one that was ordered without spoilers. That would account for the trunk lid not staying up with the spoiler on it. With the rear spoiler you got the heavier deck lid springs to hold open the trunk.

The car could be ordered stripe delete as well in 1972.

I remember someone telling me that the Z/28 emblem was centered on the deck lid close to the rear edge on non-spoiler cars. I don't have one but I think the 1972 assembly manual shows that.

Good luck with the car.

Would the Z28 designation on the trunk lid have been an emblem or a decal? I seem to think it would have been the decal.

Looks like I have one bar. So spoilers have 2 huh? I am new at this 2nd gen stuff. Thanks for the info..

Interesting about the decal on the trunk lid. Would like to see evidence of that. Heck maybe I still have it on there under the gunk. I should check...

If you think it was spoiler delete, Here is your print, The assembly line workers had a way of making those holes larger to allow for spoiler adjustment to get them to fit also. Anyway, here is what It would have looked like. I have seen a couple of Bare bones Z's with no spoilers including a wild '74 with the big decals and no spoiler - now that was a trip..

Phil thanks for posting. Is that out of the 72 book? Maybe it was a spoiler car? What do you think about the marking on the spoiler in the photo?

There should be 2 springs. Doesn't matter if you have a spoiler or not. The spoiler option uses heavier springs. One is larger then the other. If you can find a late model Z/28 such as a 1979-81 the trunk springs are the same and will work.

Believe me you can tell if you have the correct springs for the spoiler. I have the spoiler off my 70 Z/28 at the moment and when I open the trunk it flys open in a hurry.

Although you see a lot of these cars with the metal Z/28 emblem I am 99.5% sure the 1972 used the decal.

If you can find an assembly manual it will show you the correct placement for the emblem with no spoiler.

Phil posted it while I was typing.

A friend of mind owned a 1974 Z/28 Type LT. Red with black vinyl top, big stripes, no spoiler. That was a neat car.

I knew of one guy who had a Black 1973 Z with spoilers, stripe delete. Another cool car.

Darren is the deck lid original and does or did it at one time have the Camaro Emblem on the top of the
deck lid. Don’t quote me on this but I think the emblem placement on the Spoiler and Non spoiler was
different. My L78 had NO Rear Spoiler and the emblem holes were lower on the deck lid and under the
spoiler that was added to the car later on. They all had 2 torsion bars and the spoiler equipped cars had
the Heavy Duty (thicker) torsion bar. I put 2 HD torsion bars on a 70 Z/28 I had a few years back, That
deck lid was like a Catapult when you opened it; You had to hold it when turning the trunk key. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Think there is a little confusion. Darren I believe is talking about the Z/28 emblem not the "Camaro" deck lid emblem.
The Z/28 emblem/decal would be located dead center as illustrated in the drawing above. The "Camaro" emblem would be located in its normal non-spoiler location.

That was my original off topic question Rick, Sorry bout that. Did the 72 have the Camaro
emblem on the trunk lid either with or without the spoiler; Or was it 70-71 only??
