Last night John Platania (SSL78) lost his Father to a battle with Leukemia. While thankful that his Dad made it thru Christmas. These things are never easy. Please take some time out to remember John and his family during this difficult time.
Here is a little something that shows John's relationship with his Dad. I always thought this was cool..

My parents always were telling how crazy I was spending my entire check on my cars, they just didnt understand I was addicted and there was no stopping now. After that Chevelle I went to a Ford a 67 Mustang I would put a 351 4 speed and 4:62 rear end in for the summer and then every winter I would put the stock 289 and open back in since I could only afford one car since I spent all my extra money on that car. After many more cars and many more paychecks going into my cars my parents finally gave up until one day in 1985 when I asked my dad if I could borrow 9K dollars to go by a 69 Camaro with a blown motor, he really thought I was crazy but lent me the money any ways I sold everything I owned and paid them back in less than a year. The car I bought was a 69 hugger orange Yenko Camaro to this day my dad cant believe what has happened to the value of these cars.

"he really thought I was crazy but lent me the money any ways.."
This alone speaks volumes about him and who he was,and it has reflected in you.
I wish I could've met him on a Summer evening at a Lombard Cruise..

My family and I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers, from tears of sadness earlier today to tears of hapiness after reading this, knowing I have friends like this site has brought. My dad was 84 and was healthy up until 6 months ago all I can say is I sure hope I can live the life he did.
My dad wasnt a gearhead, Im the only crazy one in the family but he would like going to Union Grove Dragstrip with me and my wife (girl friend back then)back when we spent most our weekends there. I remember having a 1967 Mustang I would drive to the track it ran 13.20 at the time, every once in a while he would want to take it down the track, one time he did and I was waiting for him to come down the return road when he didnt show up I went down to the end of the quarter mile and there he was he broke my car. When he did something he always did it right he was shifting from 3rd to 4th and ended up going back into 2nd. If anybody wonders what happens when somebody does this I can tell you. 2 spun mains wiped out the clutch disc and welded second gear to the main shaft. He sure felt bad and never wanted to drive my car again back then being only 18 it was a real tragedy now what a great memory. Well thanks again and everyone have a Happy New Year

John.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss,my thoughts are with you and your family. My father passed away in 1996 and I miss him everyday. One of my fondest memories is one where he helped me work on my 1968 Camaro during the Winter while we used his Army coat to keep us off the snow. I needed a clutch and he didn't hesitate to volunteer helping me out. Dads(and moms) are great to have so I hope those who still have their parents around take the time to let them now how much they are appreciated for all they do for their children.

John,
My condolences to you and your family. Only one meeting links me to you but in that short time I saw a person that was unmistakenly a dedicated individual. From the pictures of the family I saw thruout the home to the genuine hospitality you showed me, being an outsider, I will never forget it. Above and beyond the cars, an very exceptional person. Take care. Tom
