You know, I had a talk with Joel about this very fact recently and this is how he defined what a true "Baldwin Motion" car was. Please read, this is the actual email dialog I had with him. As I have maintained (because he explained it this way to me before), the cars didn't necessarily have to be sold by Baldwin Chevrolet. They could have come from elsewhere as long as Motion Performance did the mods and sold the car.

Dan, I don't read it that way. I consider your car a BM

consider it to be?? That car, if you remember, was originally sold by Park Chevrolet.

Dan, In my opinion, a BALDWIN MOTION CAR is a car sold by Baldwin Chevrolet/Motion Performance (or Baldwin Chevrolet's successors) during the period of 1967-1974. We also had several rare occasions where people traded or sold back a few Baldwin Motion cars to us and they were resold which I think would still fall in that category.

Motion cars (again my opinion) are those which were built by Motion Performance Inc. for resale or worked on for customers from all over the world from 1966 until the closing of our service department in the late '90's.
Hopefully this will give you the definition you are looking for.

I would say most collectors feel if a car was not sold through or delivered originally to Baldwin Chevrolet then it would be a Motion car. A new car sold though Baldwin as a Motion modfied car commands a premium versus a car modified by Motion only. I don't understand the logic of something being called a BM car is it never had any relation with Baldwin Chevrolet. I understand why they would want to call the new ones BM cars, but that in my opinion is to add value eventhough Baldwin is not involved. Baldwin Motion or Motion only, they are all great cars and highly desirable. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Probably because the majority of car guys have always referred to these as Baldwin Motion cars...the folks who are really into Supercars know the difference but most people just remember the old magazine ads !!

Joel's answer to this question was "It really had nothing to do with the dealership, it is because we lived in Baldwin"

Whatever you guys think is OK with me. I still think my non-Baldwin Chevrolet cars are worth just as much as my Baldwin Chevrolet cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm guessing Motion started using Chevrolet dealers along with Baldwin Chevrolet sometime in the 70's----Dan was your car (are you talking about the Camaro??) ordered thru Motion or ordered thru Parks Chevrolet ------- that would be http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif ---I saw your '74 PhaseIII at the Motion shop in the late'90s along with the Maco--both very very http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif--- http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Hey Joe,

Where are ya goin' with that gun in your hand? (sorry)

Yes my Camaro was sold to Motion by Park Chevrolet. You can see by Joel's email that he considers this a "Baldwin Motion" car, and as I said, I would not part with this car for anything less than the right amount.

In 1990 I looked at a blue 1969 Corvette that was being sold as a Motion car, this car had a window sticker from a dealer in North Carolina. I discussed this car with a well known Corvette restorer before my purchase and he made it clear that someone else had sent off money for verification and it was not a BM car due to the fact that it did not go through Baldwin Chevrolet. Nice car and well documented car, but it was considered a Motion conversion, not a Baldwin Motion car. This was before all the information was really known about these cars.
