Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone would know what the formula is for the 68-70 or so rally wheel paint with the greenish hue that was used on the Corvettes. I don't know if the Camaros had this odd color as well or if it was just a Corvette thing. From what I have learned is it was mixed wrong and wasn't intended to have this greenish hue to it but Chevrolet decided to use it any ways. Needless to say there is no official GM paint code for it. Any help here would really be appreciated! Thanks.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting this formula or is it a Corvette only thing?

When we bought out '72 Lemans, it was a very pale green. I later found out that the car had been painted silver several years before and the green tinge appeared over time. Probably, the same thing has happened with the rally wheels over the years.

I just went and ordered some ford grey from a 70's granada and had the jobber throw a little green tint into it until i matched the back of the wheel. looks perfect.

Thanks guys but I'm thinking that this might be a Corvette thing...
Keith I know what you're saying about paint bleed-thru over time but then this odd color would also pertain to the 67 and older Corvettes with these rallys but it does not. It'a a 68-70 or so thing.

Back of Wheel (REAR)
GRAY-GREEN DELSTAR DAR #2847 (1977 FORD Dove Gray)
Front of Wheel:
The PPG # for '67-'69 argent silver is 8568.
I don't think GM had a code for Argent Silver...There is no GM code for it in PPG books, it is listed by name as a accent/wheel color. The PPG # is 8568 for Argent Silver.
Another option I have not tried but have heard of is the silver/green 1983 Maserati Smoky Quartz Metallic BC/CC.

I would imagine if you have the Argent mixed you could have the jobber add some tint to achive a green hue if desired.
Hope some of this helps.

Just to be clear, our car had silver paint over silver. Unknown type. It's obvious to me that some silvers do take on a green tint over time, for whatever reason. Did these rims have a green tint when new? I don't know. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I used paint from Quanta a few years ago and it was nice with a slight greenish tinge. You might contact them for formula as I didn't see it listed for sale on their website.

You can buy it in rattle cans from Ricks First generation with a greenish tint.
I have a 1998 Quanta Catalog that shows Part#0620A Greenish- Silver Rally wheel paint quart for $24.95.
Part #0620B is spray for $8.50.
I don't see this item on their Website catalog anymore.

This is what I use and it matches perfectly.
NAPA Martin Senour Paints Argent Aluminum Silver #7245.
It's the TECnique brand. Any NAPA auto parts store can get it for you.

Quanta no longer sells this paint but OEM paints does...my problem is getting it shipped to Canada. It's not economicaly possible to ship paint up here due to hazmat shipping costs so that is why I need a formula and have it mixed locally. There are a few NAPAs in town though so I'll try them and I might get lucky.
The more I look into this I'm thinking that it is a Corvette only thing because the Corvette's rallys were primed in a semi gloss BLACK and then sprayed from the front only with this strange silver-green color. With the rest of the Chevrolet muscle car rallys having a grey type of primer it is almost certain that the wheels were painted in different locations and could have also used a different paint formula.

I believe all rallys were dip primed in black at K-H and then painted at the individual assembly plants.
Don't recall seeing an original wheel primed in gray......

IMO, KURT S is correct! I recently refinished 6 original YH wheels, and when i glass beaded them i found blobs of black paint as though they were dipped. These blobs appeared to be runs from dipping. No grey primer of any kind was ever found, just black.
I used PPG 8568 Argent silver and then a Matte clear 20%. I also used Sickens rally black on the wheels first. They look MINT, not too shiny, and the colour is great.
I personaly dont like using rattle cans, as the paint does not stand up that well, probably from a lack of hardeners or catalysts etc.
I think that the green hue is for 67 and earlier corvette rallys.
Hope this helps. Mike.
