Nothing to do w/ codes etc but looking at the pics in the posting of the ZL1 Vette w/ the L88 it has a ribbed housing internal reg. alt. on it. . What year were these introduced and what models were they first on? . I remember about the '72 model year most GM models went from the smooth housing w/ external reg. and square plug to the ribbed style housing w/ external reg. and square plug then the ribbed housings w/ the internal reg. flat plug became the standard. . Is this right/wrong and the '69 Vette shown using a newer alt. or correct....or what??? . I'm talking the smaller housing alts here, not the HD larger units. . Thanks! ~ Pete

69 was the first year. My 69 Pontiac "police cruiser" optioned Catalina came with one of them too. When it took a dump, I had to wait three days for GM to get me a new one under warranty. No one around here could repair it, or had ever seen an internal regulated alt. before. I think it was standard on Corvette, optional on everything else.
