Anyone know if the round or oval valve stem hole are the only differences between early & late wheels? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Rob seems like there was something else, I did a search over at Nasty on the set I had, and a guy had lots of info and pics on what to look for in a post, it was a real good read...be darned I cant recall much of it though, lol claiming a senior moment, over and out.

The below link tells the story on 70-81 Wheels. I wont go on and on about all the misc details concerning rings, caps &lug nuts, cause I dont think that was your intent. The small oblong 5/8"X1" Valve Stem hole stopped around May-June and the late 70-73 Z-28 got the 13/16"X 1" hole wheels

Good info there, Chuck...thanks! But basically, if I score *any* set of 2ng gen Z wheels I won't run into any wierd offsets or ring/cap problems, right?
Thanks to a couple of members here I think I've got some lined up, and just wanna make for sure before the checks go in the mail...http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Rob, In so far as I know, ALL the 70-81 Z-28 wheels will have same basic external/internal specs. Like above link points out, the trim ring just sits differently with 77-81 wheels. You HAVE to use the Laquer paint formula with suede additive to achieve the 70-74 look, but advising you its not a durable coating and advisable mostly for show cars.
ROUND hole 77-81 Z wheels were painted body color as you probably already know......

Any set will work Rob but the round holed rims are usually much cheaper. The rings and caps are interchangeable BUT due to the design of the early rims (slotted and oblong valve stem holes) the trim ring will only show it's face. In the later rims (round stem hole) the inner rim was set back a bit so that a quarter inch of the inner part of the trim ring will show. This actually looks nicer but it is not correct for 70-72 cars.
Whatever rims you use, you will not have any backspacing problems.

Many thanks for all the info, y'all...so, do they repro the rings/centers?

Yes they do. The rings do not have the same finish as the original ones but they are nice looking nonetheless. Incidently, these rings are also found on late '80s 4x4 chevy S15 and GMC Jimmy rims.

Thanks...these wheels are *NOT* going on a Camaro, so I'm not concerned with correct finishes...just that they'll go nice & straight...http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Arguably one of the best looking rims Chevy ever made.

I agree with Bob, Bruce, Great looking wheel they made the look of these cars.
Here's one of mine note... valve stem hole (04B car) valve stem extension, embossed center cap, correct lug nuts and original rubber. Got to love it, I do!!!

Jack, I was going to post that picture earlier, but it wasnnt handy and not already at my photobucket host. Youre repainted wheels and original parts are the finest example of this wheel that I know of today. While there have been many 70 Z-28's judged at Carlisle, yours is the ONLY one Ive seen that has everything correct. 1)The paint 2)small air stem hole on pre 6/70 Z-28 3)Correct Trim Ring 4)Correct Lug Nuts 5) Correct Air Valve Extension 6)Correct Embossed BowTie Center cap.....Friends save this picture, as you wont see that combination of Original Correct parts often.
