Came across a 1968 chevelle 2dr post.. Sedan i suppose is what u call it.. First time ive ever seen one for 1968. Im sure in earlier yrs these cars were not very desirable.. What abt today's standards are they worth restoring? Were there any copo's or 'special' built ones? OR were most 6cyl???. And what was the reasoning behind GM building a 2 dr post chevelle? Did they consider this a business coupe? Would appreciate any and all feedback.. thanx

Yes, these cars do have a following, just like other stripped-down plain janes like Biscaynes. There were no hi-po COPO versions, but it was possible to order a screamer with the 327/325hp L79 motor from the factory. Lots of people are looking for these (even with a 6-banger) so that they can drop in a big-block and build their own sleeper.

Hey Willy....cool car! . I've always loved the post cars more than hardtops, sadly the rest of the world is catching on? . Although not necessarily rare at the time, Post cars were the cheapo of most car lines and w/ basic standard equipment always the price leader. . With many models, they've a lighter roof structure since the post helped w/ support so no options, less total weight and lower price made it the choice of racers also the b-piller made it less vulnerable to body twisting. . Although rare, Chevelle SS post cars were even offered in '69 but I don't think '68....anyone? . There's a few members here w/ '69 post L78 cars too, Keith Tedford who also has a Copo Chevelle for one and I think Lightfoot has one too and his is an L89 to boot? . Not avail after '69 on Chevelles, GM went in and out of offering these on their other mid size models when you look at availibility of Cutlass, Skylark, Tempest etc through '72. . '73 models introduced the semi-hdtop 'colonade' styling or whatever it was called which was basicly a hdtop door and post body although a few variations of the old type of post cars were offered later like the '77 Caprice coupe. . I had a '68 300 6-cyl 3-tree back in the late 70's....paid $200 for it and used it as a winter bomb for one year only. . If you fix it, skip the fancy wheels and run w/ the steelies and dog dish caps! ~ Pete

In 1969 only, the SS option was available on the 300 Deluxe (both post coupe and hardtop models). Some folks (myself included for awhile) thot that 300 DX SS's could only be post coupes, but Chevrolet also make a hardtop model (no B pillar or vent window) that initially looks like a standard Malibu SS until you investigate closer. Unique to the 300 DX SS's (coupe and hardtop) are non-hidden wipers, shorter stainless trim at bottom of windshield, no center attach point for visors, unique door panels, taxi grade (tough) bench seat covers, and rubber mats. According to Dan Carr (http://www.designscomputed.com/auto_pub/a_body_68_72.html), the post coupes were a tad more rare with the L78 option at about 140 produced and the hardtops were produced at approximately 184 copies.

Nice looking setup. Paint looks good particularly the transition from yellow to orange in the flames. What gears are you running? As tuff as it is to find decent 300 Deluxe interior trim panels, you may want to consider puttting standard Malibu panels in your car at least for now. Good luck. Keep us posted on your build progress and your racing exploits.

THANKS sam, its a 4.88 gear,strange spool ,axles, c-clip eliminator. being a racecar, im not too worried about finding 300 deluxe panels, i had bought 68 coupe panels not knowing that they are completely different near the post. someone has to have something somewhere.......ill keep searching.

o3c=march,3rd week...4364 = unknown...68 =yr..13427 = 300 deluxe...kan = factory...994xxx = fisher data processing number...760-a = black pattern imitation leather bench seat...and xz i would think that should be y 2 which means butternut yellow, black top.

according to www.chevellestuff.com (http://www.chevellestuff.com), the A is part of interior code (760 A ) which means black imitation leather and the A means bench seat. unless im reading it wrong. and as far as the XZ R-R I dont know. ill ask some more pros on the site.
