I called a guy about a 69Z for sale and had him read off all the numbers. He claims he is the second owner and has had this car since 1971 and he bought it from his buddy and the car is 100 percent original. Its an X33 02B 72-B car.. He said the rear code was BE...how could this be? car is from NY..any ideas? could you order a BE in a Z/28 through central production? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Just a thought because I have done this.
Could you maybe have heard him over the phone wrong?
Maybe he said "BV" which is a 4:10 Posi.,or another similar sounding code.

Buy the car, sell the rearend, replace it with the correct one and pay off a portion of your investment. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Just a humorous thought.

Wouldn't that make him a rearend flipper? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif How long would he have to keep it so it wouldn't be considered flipping? Sometimes this hobby is really nutty!

Sam, I wonder if it was just a timing thing with supply and demand. A 4.10 posi rear is a 4.10 posi rear to the guy on the assembly line. I'm sure the paperwork would have shown a "BV" rear but maybe the guy couldn't locate one quickly so he grabbed a "BE" rear. I'm just guessing, but who knows. It could have been a warranty replacement as well. So where do you plan to store all these 69 Z28's? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Double check the VIN/Cowl tags No matter if he says hes the 2nd owner and bought it from his buddy

Would not be the first time a COPO car was found dressed up as a Z28!!!

I may be all wet, but I'm thinking I've read of BE rears in some Z's somewhere before...like in Hooper's book, or something like that... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

I have Hooper's book, and he has been wrong about certain parts and/or options more than once.

I had a 68Z that I purchased in the early 90's that had a BE rear. It was an old late 60's, early 70's race car that apparently had the BE swapped into it back in the day. Keep in mind that engines, trans and rears moved from car to car back then. We were involved in some pretty wild trades of driveline parts especially when someone was getting ready to trade in a car.

My first '67 Z had a BE rear too. Same deal, street racer/drag car.
