I saw that last night. Matter of fact I watched it about five times. Each time it gets better and better. I was really moved by the story. This proves that children with disabilities (physical or mental) are not restricted to stereotypes normally place on them. Jason may have trouble inside the classroom because of his condition, but he did not let that stop him from succeeding on the court and leading a regular, happy life. In an environment as harsh as high school, I can only imagine the ridicule he had to withstand. Jason will never fall into the category of being a “normal” learner but hopefully his heroics on the basketball team and his heroics in the final game of the season will allow people to look at him with different eyes. Compelling story!

The part I find compelling is that he had the confidence/courage in himself to keep taking the 3-point shots considering this was his first time in a game and those are not high percentage shots (not afraid to fail)...even though he's in high school I think he earned one of these... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

CBS news showed it on their Thursday PM broadcast, and the next day so many people asked for it to be shown again, they re ran it again on Fridays PM broadcast.
I saw it air Thursday already so I switched the channel, only to see NBC news running it too.
Great story, and very fortunate they have actual footage to document it.
Here's to you Jason.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

What took the Coach so long to put him in?

"Put me in Coach I'm ready to play... today" c/o John Fogerty

We had a similar story this past high school football season. A local team had a young man with Downs Syndrome as one of their players, before the end of the game both head coaches agreed to put him in for one play from the 1 yard line and let him carry the ball. He gets the ball and goes 99 yards for TD with a smile from sideline to sideline. To see the joy on his face and the tears in his parents eyes was awesome!

I wish the news media focused on more of these type stories.
