If anyone cares, here's an ugly '70 Chevelle supposed L78 car. . It looks like it's probably true but w/ 12 bolt, F41 and 6500 tach wonder if possibly an LS6 could be hiding behind those fancy bumpers? . Here's the link but somehow it's not highlighting the whole link? ~ Pete

Wow, calling this Chevelle ugly is an insult to ugly Chevelles. What were they thinking when they painted that engine compartment.

I may have to bid on it.

1970 L-78 equipped Chevelles were only assembled in the first 100 days of production at ALL 6 assembly plants. They were phased out for the new LS-6 engine after late November 1969.Michigans Flint plant only built Chevelles in September 1969,and then stopped from Oct.1st 1969 to Jan.31st 1970, before starting up again in February 1970.This car was assembled April 1970,2nd week so if it's what he says it is and the tach is authentic to this vehicle,it would have had to have been an LS-6 originally...Unless he or anyone else can provide past history to suggest otherwise.
The rearend code could be a clue to true it's heritage, among other items.
Interesting that it's a Flint build.

Great info Rick....sure looks like it's worth looking deeper at this being an LS6! . If true and although an ugly duckling now, considering that beaten one that went for twenty'ish last week, the BIN would be a great grab? . Sure wish I could afford it right now....have fun fellas'! ~ Pete

Rick, I have the below CKO long block with VIN stamped on bellhouing flange as you can see. The plant location letter did not strike the block. Assy date on deck reads early Nov/69.
Willma has told me " I have never seen a vin near the oil filter on a Nova BB engine...only stamp is on the front pad by the pass cyl head."
Camaro VIN's all started with number 5. By process of elimination could you agree that I have a Chevelle L-78 engine????

The W in my caption below is NOT readable. I incorrectly guessed and letter can NOT be read!!!!!

Chuck
It looks like it's either from a Chevelle or Nova Originally.
It looks like a Willow Run plant, showing just \ for the begining of the W.
If that's not it,it would have to be the letter,A or B or F or K or L.But I would lean towards L,as I've seen more Van Nuys L stamped down by the Oil filter out of those plant letters I mentioned, but it doesn't look like an L to me.

Do you think that car will be restored or did someone just buy a trim tag and some misc. pieces?

I really don't know, but at that price I would imagine & hope the buyer will keep the tags attached to it.

Considering last week's car had a build-sheet, I'd expect someone plans a resto? .

This week's ugly one (if LS6) sure has a whole lot more car for the dough....stick too! . Ghastly 'customizing' aside, it appears unmodified and would be a fun afternoon going through it, checking for the build-sheet, rear axle code etc! .

Who is 'ZL1camaro1969' on it now....someone from here?

Update, at $6900 and only 21 hours to go....and nobody brave enough to hit the BIN? .
I wonder if last weeks $22K car is gonna' get fixed or it's planned for identity theft? .

Old thread but in case anyone follows, the 136370A155771 Chevelle is now "restored". It is in fact an original LS6 with original buildsheet though none of the drivetrain, sheet metal (other than roof, floor pans and decklid), interior and most parts are original to the car, all have been replaced with reproduction. The automatic was removed and the car made into a manual transmission car using all reproduction parts other than the transmission which was a real 1970 M22. I can no longer bring up the ebay ad so I have no idea what condition the car was when it was sold on ebay. I am very confident that the original body was used but had all the sheet metal replaced. Cowl tag had been removed and replaced during the restoration but the VIN tag was never touched.
