Anyone have thoughts on what a 1969 Yenko Nova Clone, very well done should be worth. Correct 427, etc. Just looking for any feed back.
thanks, Rick

Rick, how about posting some photos of the car?

About the same as a nicely restored L78 Nova - assuming it's a real L78 SS, with a small deduction for stripe removal.
Why people pay a premium for a stripe application is beyond me http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

well I know ebay isn't the best gauge to use when selling a car for a fair price...but this is a recently sold car....for $26K

Yep, a perfect example of a nice street car with lots of power upgrades, wheels, tires, hood, shifter, etc... and then someone decides that it's close enough to a Yenko and that a stripe kit should be installed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif There is nothing even remotely close to this car being a clone of anything, yet people will pay a premium for someone else to apply the stripes. (Albeit, in this case I feel the premium is small since the car is quite nice, but still http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif ).
What would this car sell for without the stripes?

You'e right Marlin...for those of you who own the real cars...it will always be a clone no matter how good they recreate it...but as the value of your cars go up...so do these clones...I mean I bought my BM Nova clone for over $10K less than that car...and it doesn't need that amount to be on that level...but Yenko's are pulling that market up....those damn Camaros! ...and the stripe kit is an cheap easy way to make that car more desirable for someone to own...than a regular Nova. Just my $.02...

I would say the car is worth about 16,500.

I understand Kevin, sometimes it baffles me that a buyer falls for that 'cheap easy way to make that car more desirable' angle! Why not buy a cheaper car, then put the stripes on yourself? In this example, the buyer paid a premium for the cost of the stripes and their application - oh well http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I agree with M...the extra premium of this car should only be the cost of the stripes + labor to add them. No different than an old car with an aftermarket stereo...buy a car you genuinely like, then add the stereo...don't buy the car for the stereo!

Marlin, if you had to, what would you say/think the value is of a car like that...without the premium for the stripes...but being a fully restored Nova with a 427 and all the goodies? Just curious...as I'm sure the original poster is...same as above $16.5K? higher? Lower? Is the "poster" of this thread the new owner? car was sold in Elverson, PA...right near us! Kevin

You can't build a "real" clone of anything for $16,500.....

Thanks, but that wasn't the question! BTW a DIY'r can do an admirable job for $16.5k - just takes patience and skill http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

How about a small deduction for being an 11327 6 cylinder car? Thanks, I guess I better concentrate on restoring my 69 L-34 Nova SS, with non original drive train.

This car cost a whole lot more than $16,500. I don't think the correct 427, 12 bolt rear and muncie trans in this car could be had for $16,500. I appreciate most concerns about clone cars. I just wanted some opinions without anyone getting their feathers ruffled about clones. I was into correct numbers, etc. long before most were even talking about such things. Probably 1971 or 72 when I had my first 1969 L-78 Nova with a factory M-22. Just to show where I'm coming from, I have had my current L-34, 1969 Nova since October 1981 and still have not restored the car, because I know I will probably never find the original 396. And if I did it would never measure up to the 1969 L-78 Nova I had in the early 70's. I am seriously thinking about restoring it in the near future. Of course the 1971 L-48 (350) motor it currently has will be replaced with a big block.
Thanks for listening, Rick

In a way, the poor quality of the clones is a good thing, because most people are knowledgeable enough to spot them. If the clones get really good, then some people will get duped.
Rick, don't you have a '69 RG, L78 with alum heads, buckets, console, gauges, w/ v/t Nova?

What? Barret Jackson is hardly the barometer of the clone world!
427rcode
03-30-2006, 08:45 AM
then why are all the clones at barret bringing the big money
so that might be the barometer.if you cant get the real thing then i guess the clones are the next best thing.check the sales there and you will see the prices of the clones.they all soldfor record numbers.when they go down then you can say its hardly the barometer.real cars that are in bad shape get all themoney there.

Ralph, Didn't you buy a tribute/clone/recreation at Russo and Steele at this years auction?
The way I look at it...if you can't find the real thing...find a tribute car and drive it like it should be driven http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

THATS EXACTLY RIGHT DRIVE IT LIKE YOU SHOULD,THE VERY RARE COLLECTOR CARS SHOULD BE SHOWN AND KEPT PRESTINE THE OTHERS SHOULD BE DRIVEN.AND YES MARLIN THEY DO HAVE MORE MONEY THAN BRAINS,BUT IT KEEPS THE VALUES OUT OF SIGHT.IF I WOULD BRING SOME OF MY CARS THERE I WOULD NEED TWO OR THREE SUITCASSES,BUT THERE STAYING HERE IN THE COLLECTION
FOR NOW
GOOD LUCK

Very rare collector cars should also be driven, otherwise, what are they - a dust collector http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif There is no braggin about being able to lift a cover in your garage - but blasting down the 1320... priceless!

Yep, there is more risk driving your car to a local show vs. racing it at a drag strip. I can't say that I ever ran over worms and junk on the 1320 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
