This is our 300 Deluxe SS 396 Chevelle. We were fortunate in that the interior was in good shape and just needed a couple of seat insert repairs. No one manufactures reproduction interiors for these cars and the seats and door panels are almost impossible to find. When we bought the car, it was a tired dark grey. It got done in the original Cortez Silver. Although the car did not come with the D96 stripe, the silver really needed the side accent. We came up with a reproduction rubber/plastic floor mat to replace the carpet that someone had installed. A Muncie handle was adapted to the Hurst shifter to have the best of both worlds. We switch back and forth between the factory SS wheels and Cragar mags. The day two look is a refreshing change for us. When the HEI died, the engine got a stock points distributor which works just fine. The engine got some fresh paint at the same time. We managed to find a good 4346 carb and it works like new. This is not really a show car but rather a nice driver and has gone about 28K miles since the fall of 1997. The original owner posed for a picture of him beside the car. Lots of old stories there. We have now owned the car longer than any of the dozen previous owners.

Nice 300 SS Keith. Cortez Silver with a black bench seat "taxi cab" interior and big honkin' Muncie shift handle stickin' up thru the floor is BEAUTIFUL! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif Those Cragar SSs look so right on your car. Thanks for sharing and glad you are enjoying it.

P.S. Does your 300 have the single low pitch horn? Chevy took any opportunity to squeeze a nickel on these entry level cars.

The car has the dual horns. With a dozen previous owners, I'm not sure how the car came. Most everything seemed to be original except for the headers, Hurst shifter and Stewart-Warner tach and gauges.

That's my wife Dale in the Chevelle. She can handle the 4 speed as well as most guys. I added power steering to make parking a little easier for her.

Keith, Awesome Chevelle! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I've seen Sam's (Mockingbird812)up close and personal....and I think the 300 Deluxes are definitely WAY cool. I love the "taxi cab" seat material...as Sam puts it.

Thanks so much for submitting it for the Members Rides section...and sharing your cool Chevelle with everyone.

Now, I just have to get that Sam guy to send some pics... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I love it! A friend of mine about 4 miles down the road has a 300D Hardtop too; one of the VERY few I've seen. His was a 325 HP with a 3 spd. Couldn't find repro interior pieces so he converted it to Malibu SS interior. He's been sorry ever since. I'll forward him these shots.

BTW, I'll assume the 'accessory' hanging from the brake release handle is yours and not the wife's! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Very http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif ride!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Very http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Keith!! Gotta love a couple who has both a COPO and a L78 69 Chevelle http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Didn't every car have one of these fresheners hanging somewhere. Part of the nostalgia. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif As for the COPO, bodyshop guys are either intimidated or want a blank cheque. As it stands, the guy who painted it in 1972 and again in 1975 is going to get to do it again. Might even have it out next year..........but I'm not holding my breath. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is this the car that was parked beside me at Haugens BBQ customer appreciation night a few years ago?

Is that a cool ride or what? I managed a chev dealership in the 80's and I would always look up Holland chev when I needed to dealer trade for a low option content chev or olds.

It was probably us as I've never seen another silver 300 Deluxe SS in our area. If you like ours, you'll love Don Lightfoot's car. We live about a half hour east of Haugen's. Say hello the next time you see us. Might even want to talk cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As many have already stated, this is a very nice and unique example of GM's past. Very good documentation that GM of Canada has provided. Would be nice if that kind of information were available here in the states. Still anxiously waiting to see another original owner 69 COPO Chevelle restored back to original condition. Speaking of Don Lightfoot, I got to meet him and admire the very nice Chevelle he owns this past year. I knew he was from your area, but forgot to ask if he knew you?
