That was a fun car for me Joe. I am glad it all worked out and it is in good hands. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I bought Sixtiesmuscle's old Yenko tribute car. It is a LA built L78 documented with build sheet. Mulsanne blue with blue interior. Currently the car has an LS6 in it. In a way this car reminded me of John P's (Alss) 69 SS/RS ZL1 that I used to borrow. I wish I could have bought that one but I am sure this will suit me just fine. Sixties did a great job on the resto. The fact that it was once part of his collection was a big selling point. I don't have many pictures of the car yet. Still haven't had the chance to bring it home but it kept safely nearby. My intention is to drive it and have fun cause I don't want to be working on anything this summer. However, short term the strips will probably be coming off. Might add a couple of goodies I have been collecting. Long term I would like to get the correct L78 back in there. I have a few regular photos of the car that I could scan in. Here is a shot of the motor. Perhaps someone has a picture of the car saved somewhere. I will take more photos once I get it home.

Daren, I looked at that car when it was at Volo and considered buying it. I really thought it was a great car and very well done. I liked it the way it is, truly the way Yenko would have built a 1970 version of their car. I never saw the paperwork and was not able to secure it from the prior owner, but I always understood it was a real L78.

Great purchase, I am a BIG fan of that car......

Nice score Darren! Does the original L78 come with the car, or will you need to track down a dated 396?

Congrats on your new acquisition Darren. I loved that car ever since I first saw it and is a nice tribute. When do I get my ride???? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Yes I have the buildsheet on the car and it is a real L78. I also have titles leading up to the original purchase. The original motor and trans are gone as is the case with many musclecars. But I have a correct L78 block that I will put back in eventually.

Again thanks for all the compliments. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/youguysrock.gif

What started over a month ago is now finished. This car was brought to my attention by Stefano Bimbi. The month seemed like a year as I waited on the edge of my seat, I bit my nails till the deal was struck and I was in the car driving home this afternoon experiencing the awesome power. The wait was pretty nerve racking for me but Stefano kept me cool. My thanks to Stefano and the seller Jay Rutuli for their help, patience and friendship during this transaction. Keep in mind these guys have brought back a Chicago legend.
Here are more pics. The interior shot came out horrible. Need a new camera now. I'll try to get one tomorrow.

Hey Darren, thanks for stopping by with it yesterday what a cool car I think I would leave it just the way it is for a while and just enjoy it. Its almost time for Darrens 2nd anual birthday cruise. I think there will be a lot of blue cars at the cruise this year. The car couldnt of ended up in better hands.

How about a shot showing the wheels and tires? What size tires are on the back?

Sam, Torq Thrust Ds are 15x7 in the rear with G70-15s. Fronts are 14x6 with F70-14s. Tires are redline Firestone Super Sports. I am going to put a set of Indy Profiles on the rear and reverse the front tires for the Day 2 look. Rear redlines might be up for grabs once I get the M/Ts.

Frank- The car spent most of its life in Decatur Il. Someone prior to me did a title search so I have most of them. The guy that sent the pics said he has owned over 20 musclecars. Very nice fellow.

Dan- Short spoiler huh? Easier said than done. If 3M blue painters tape will cover up the quarter holes I might consider it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sam- I was wondering that myself. Looks like the tips might have been removed??

My 72 SS 350 had chrome pipes when I bought it in 1978. The first time I replaced them I went to Baierl Chevrolet in Wexford PA and bought 3 new chrome pipes (all they had and all the counter man said they would ever have because of being discontinued), I put two on the car and saved one for future use and the hope that I could find one more. However I think the pipes I had were chrome from end to end not welded. I still have the one so I will look to see if I am correct about this. I think Gardner Exhaust makes the correct system for 70-73 with the chrome pipes.

I wish I knew, Ray! Maybe someone could look up that part number that's stamped in and see if it's GM??

John Brown
05-16-2006, 05:02 AM
That's not a GM pipe. It was made by the AP/Merit/Goerlich corporation. They were all the same company and sold in different markets. I sold a lot of their chrome pipes for 69 and later Camaros. I still have one hanging in the rafters, along with some chrome Walker chambered exhaust for Oldsmobiles. One of the parts stores I worked for had them on display. Couldn't stand to see them go in the dumpster. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Thanks, does it make any sense that a Chevy dealer sold it to me? This is the only time I bought any exhaust parts from a Dealer, the next set came from NAPA and they were not chrome.
