I may be in need of someone who could look at a car in west central Iowa, just west of Fort Dodge, in Rockwell City IA. I know this is a real long shot, since this town looks to be waaayyyyyyyy out in the boonies http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Any help would be appreciated http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Bill, That town is about 200-250 miles away from me. Funny thing I bought a 69 camaro from that town 20 years ago with it was a 68 Z-28 short block. Kim

I'll be passing through this town within 30 days (could be sooner). I can take a look if this works within your game plan. Would probably be a weekday (during business hours) if that makes any difference.

Let me know if you want to explore.

To all those who replied here or sent a PM.....thank you http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

This was a car for my brother-in-law. We decided to just bite the bullet and made the trip ourselves yesterday. Drug a trailer along behind my Tahoe since I had a good feeling all along about this car....and that proved to be the right thing to do. Brought home a 67 Fairlane GT/A convertible http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif. A great, solid car needing some cosmetics and minor mechanical maladies repaired, but nothing we can't handle http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif It was very refreshing to deal with a seller who was as honest as the day is long....no surprises, and the car was probably even a little better than he described it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I took pictures, but they're too big to post here http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif 17 hours and 771 miles makes for a long day, but it was a great adventure visiting Rockwell City, Iowa, in the heart of Farm Country USA .... the town's motto "The Gold Buckle of the Corn Belt" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Hey Bill ...it looks cool! It looks much better than the red one http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif At least they didn't paint over the data plate.

Sure glad that you had someone remind you to take the camera with you http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cool car Bill. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif A schoolmate of mine bought a new '67 390 GTA. IMPRESSIVE!

I just had a short term affair with something from the Blue Oval family myself. I'm not ashamed to admit it would have been very easy to hang on to that car. I guess as we get older we appreciate ALL the ones that have survived, no matter what plant they came from!

Congrats to the new owner. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

COOL! That is a beautiful car. Did you stop and get a Maid-Rite on the way home? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

Dennis,

I couldn't agree more!! Even though I am primarily a Chevy guy, I like 'em all, and have always thought the 66-67 Fairlane was a sharp looking car.

Darren,

What the heck is a Maid-Rite http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Whatever it is, we didn't have one!

One interesting thing we found was that the mid-grade (89 octane) gas was 5 to 10 cents per gallon cheaper than 87 octane regular in Iowa, evidently because it contains more ethanol (corn-based) than the other grades. Whatever, it ran just fine in my Tahoe pulling the car & trailer http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey D, do you have Maid Rites in your area? We still have one in Springfield but I thought they were almost extinct.

Love the Home-Made Root Beer! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Maid-Rite = kind of a sloppy joe sandwich without the slop. They call em loose meat sandwiches. We don't have any out in my area.

On a parts run I took to Iowa last year I made plans to get one. There was one off the highway with a huge sign. I wasn't that hungry and figured I would get one on the way back. As I drove I passed a few more but wanted to hit that one on the highway. On the drive back I was starved. Finally got there only to discover that the place was closed. A Saturday to! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
No Maid-Rite for me. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Very nice Bill. You did well. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gifThe Bettendorf Maid Rite is where the Quad Cities Cruisers cruise to. Very good milk shakes. Still big around here. You can almost hear your veins slammin shut. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
