View Full Version : Recap-Spring Vettefest
First of all, our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob Ashton's mother, who is battling cancer.
Second, what a great show. Bob and his crew are to be commended for picking right up where Al and Ken left off. A couple of glitchs, but nothing major, and ones I am sure Bob will have ironed out by Fall VF.
Had close to 20 cars representing the sYc at the show, and I think about half of the membership there in person. The Nickey car display was awesome, 4 1st gens (3 of Guarise's and Pearse's), 1 2nd gen and 1 4 gen (both Gaurise's) and Tom's Stephani's road race car. The roadrace car looked even more wicked in person. On Saturday Linda Vaughn was setup in this area. Across the isle was the Nickey Chicago booth which seemd to be doing a brisk business all weekend.
Now to the best part, the awards. All of the members who were judged received a Gold Spinner.

Fran Roberts
Dave Whitfield
Tommy K.
Steve Bimbi
Greg Cullum
And to top that off, club members brought home 4 Top Gun awards.
Helen Gibb-Judges choice
Tommy K.-Best Nova
Fran Robert-Best Camaro
Greg Cullum-Best Chevelle
Congrats to all of the winners. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I agree with Tom and Brian (another post),that the 25th Anniversary Vette/Fest was simply awesome.
It is interesting to note that many SYC members cars achieved the ultimate awards, but that they were also restored by members!
The Gibb crew was first to arrive on the scene, It took little time for Helen and Nancy to start the bench racing. From there, the excitement never subsided.
In addition to those mentioned prior, we also need to recognize Tom Clary for making the SYC and Nickey show case a reality.
Another round of thanks to those who took the time to share their stories and cars with all of us.
I also want to thank both new and old friends who stopped by the Nickey Chicago display and patronized our new business.

OK: Nickey Chicago, Inc. is officially back in business. This is now my full time avocation. The Companies short term main focus will be selling Muscle Cars. We have 12 Cars going to the Mecum Auction, May 27th.
We are also going to try and cater to the current "new" day two movement and resurgence in drag racing and Hi-Performance.
This means that we will be offering Vintage Muscle car parts when available as well as most anything you can get from the major catalog speed shops.
There will be special pricing/discounts for SYC members.
We plan to have a web presence at www.NickeyChicago.net. (http://www.NickeyChicago.net.) The site is still under construction and should be finished in the next few weeks. The home page is a work in progress but should give you an idea of what we are trying to accomplish.
We plan to try and tie in some employees from Nickey, who were there back in the day.
The Main Speed Shop Location will be at 2720 Thatcher Ave.(Grand & Thatcher) in River Grove, IL 60171. The main phone is 708-453-0000.
We also have an anex building which is the old Gene Marmer Auto Repair shop across Grand on Thatcher.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

s also pretty cool that we will be able to order some speed stuff from a site member...and if you feel like having it installed by Nickey Chicago there will be that option too...very cool...
