It bugs me that Mecum has been using a computer generated picture to promote what sounds like a beautiful RG Yenko. I'd love to see some real pics of that car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
John O, help us out...maybe someone from here will buy it.

The Daytona Yellow car is one of Nickey Chicagos's consignment cars which I sold to a SYC member a couple of years back.

NovaMob03 Those are real photos. They were shot in a professional studio for us by Brian Sapp in 1991. The "surrealistic" look is intentional and due to the lighting. No expense was spared in the photography and these pictures have been used, and "borrowed" in numerous books and articles. Mecum has the color on the lower photos screwed up, maybe they just scanned them and lost the green. This RG Yenko is an original vinyl top car (sold at Jack Douglass), and is one of the Camaro's that is, in my opinion, as sharp as any 71 billboard Cuda due to the color combination. Maybe John has some more recent photo's available he can post.

I dould assume that black with a black billboard has to be very rare....didn't Kevin Suydam have one of these at one time?

Steve,
I called Mecum to ask if it was an X 11 trim car as the pic shows it having quarter lourvers. The sales rep didn't know the answer but told me it was a 'computer generated' pic. I just think it'd be a good thing if we could some good post resto shots of the car to get the 'buzz' going on the car. Hope it brings all the cheese! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Way to many good expensive cars and not enough high end buyers..cars weren't doing the money at all! I think that auction is going to reck the car market for awhile because the people that weren't there and didn't see what was really going on (to many cars vs buyers) At an auction like Barrett there are a bunch of different style cars so there isn't 10 cars to 1 buyer like at Mecum..1000 Muscle cars to 200+ buyers wasn't a smart move on there part the market just got flooded.. They should have limited that auction to 500 cars at most and not had so many high high dollars cars. The guys that werent there are going to think the market is changing and start to panic..Just my thoughts but I know from talking to a few other guys there the feeling is similar.. (some good buys might be had in the next month or 2 if panic sets in with some of the big dealers). Just my 2 cents.

I think you are right about too many cars.. besides . Lets face it, there are always people coming into the market who are not in touch with the auction arena , but have the money to buy.New buyers. They all know Barrett Jackson .. but most of them have never heard of Mecum. So you don't draw the new high end buyer with cash who decides he wants a car and puts 6 figures in his wallet and goes shopping. I just don't think Mecum has the identity with the general public that BJ has.

You are right there. Mecum owns "Bloomington Gold", the large Corvette show held in St. Charles, IL the 2nd week of June. He made is name with the Corvette and is expanding quickly.

With "Bloomington Gold" coming up, it also explains why there were only a handful of Corvettes at this week's auction. The big Corvette dealer's like Pro-Team, Mershons, etc. weren't even there...but they will be 'front & center' in St. Charles.

Do you guys think these auctions on holiday weekends hurt also? Last year they had the NY auction on Labor Day weekend and this year on Memorial day weekend. I still see some strong numbers in some of the cars that sold.

No, Dan but i am in the process of buying a 1969 butternut yellow black vinyl top yenko chevelle that has been stored in a garage for the last 21 years. I also have recently inherited my dads 1969 fathom green corvette roadster saddle interior, both tops. Black vinyl. hardtop, rear window defrost 427/390 4 spd. It also has been in our pole barn for 21 years. I drove it when I had my permit (15yrs. old)stored since! I have recently aquired the v.i.n. for the yenko and checked it on the site and it was there. I promised the current owner that I would not disclose any more info untill I purchase the car. I will definately stay in touch as I will need as much help as I can in the restoration. Thank you for asking Greg!
