Peter, Can't help you on that front.....BUT, here's a neat pic of one of the time slips that came with my 69 Yellow Camaro that most of the members here have seen. It was based out of Ohio and I guess saw this track alot. Broke out with a .49 on a 11.60 index (SS/DA)

Jeff
nice stuff. Thanks for sharing the pics. Wild colours on those cars. You probabley saw my Camaro race back then.
However lets get back to finding 68 record holders at the MIlan Drag strip. Here is more info
Also
I am looking for some info on my car origionally from Windsor Ontario
bought new in 68. The car is a black on black m22 488 s. L78 Camaro then converted
to a 427 and raced by a GM engineer working for GM at the time on the Mark IV nascar engine by the name of Barry M.
He raced the car extensively at the local drag strips and at the
Milan Drag way.where he held the track record for his class in 68. He is well known in that area still today as a real pro on high performance. he also ran a 67 Camaro white in colour. He also ran an Opel (modified)
I am restoring this 68 black on black car and have lots of paper work for the car.I would like to hear the stories
of either the drag strip or the street bruizer. He also ran the car with other GM big block engines
which he used.I am documenting the history of this car and would love to hear from you
with any stories.
This is what the car looks like today after a frame off rotisery restoration.
Thanks

Peter,
I'll check some periodicals this weekend. There's a slight possibility I could find something.
Was the car only raced in '68? Was it lettered or named so it could be identified in a black&white photo? What class did it run? Those clues will help.

Thanks Pal I realy could use some help in this research.
I am including a web site that shows one of his cars on the line white camaro. The black car had no letering it was black and he did hold the class record. I have a pic of the race track award certificate however the flash from the camera hid that info. He went 10:50s
I will hopefuly some day get a copy of the award as he did not want to part with the origional.

hope that helps

Pete,
You say, "one of his race cars"., but I don't know if you're talking about the black car or not. (painted white??) You've lost me http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif.
If I'm going to try to help you I need to know the external description of the car back then, the class it ran and the year(s) it ran.

The black car 68 Camaro ran from march of 1968 to about 1970
In march of 1968 an article was written in the Detroit Free Press about this car and the record it set. I am curently trying to get a copy of that article in the automotive section.I think it ran modified production(427 425 hp)
There must be a list of the IHARA records set at the track
for the year 1968. The car was and is a black on black 68
Camaro converted to a 427 by MOtion.Thats all I can provide you with today.I am in the process of getting more info. If you require the name of the Owner I will send it to you in a private email.

Peter,
A lot of record lists for various tracks that were published list class, owner's name, type of car, then ET or mph
The listing could be as obscure as: A/MP, J. Smith, Chevy, 11.39
Do you know if the car had any lettering? The only way for me to find it in either a track record listing or a photo would be by either lettering on the car or the owner's or driver's name in the listing. I can't receive emails here but I can receive PMs here.

By the way, most newspapers saved each copy completely on microfische (sp). I was able to get copies of articles from the Tarrytown (NY) Daily News from June '63.

The first time slip is from 69 when the car ran SS/EA on a 11.60 record in NHRA. The second slip was an AHRA slip and from the m.p.h. was a shut down ,foot on the brakes to keep from breaking out pass.On a full pass the m.p.h. was in the 122-123 range

the cops would probably stop you just to see the car.
Kind of reminds me of the day my wife took my 70 chevelle out one Saturday afternoon while I wacthed the 4 kidies.
When she did not come back after 45 minutes I began to worry
Then all of a suden the chevelle arrived in the driveway
as I aproched her in the driveway with the 4 kidies in tow
2 squad cars came racing one in each direction and stoped behind the chevelle.
Then the both cops asked use who was driving the car because the neighbours had phoned the cops about a person doing smoke shows showing off in front a buch of kids. Well the 4 kiddies ran to their mothers side worried about her mom being in trouble with the cops. Then my wife expained that she was driving and did not know that the car would accelerate so fast and burn the tires the way they did and she did not mean it. The cops looked at the kidies and my wife then said OK then please drive more carefully the next time.Good one EH!

Peter,

That's a classic story......I can visualize her smokin' the hides sayin..."Holy S--T.........."
To change the subject a bit, Canada certainly has their stuff right when it comes to VIN numbers!!! When I bought my 67 SS427 Chevrolet, which was built in Oshawa, I got soooo much info, i laughed at how GM in the US never kept records except for Pontiac! Running the VIN thru The Ministry and also thru George at GM Vintage Services absolutety, positively gAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE TO BUY THE CAR! I wanna break out and sing....OH Can-A-DA.....!! Check out the pic of Canadian Gold!!!

You asked me a while back if the car had lettering on it I just found out that the car had lettering on it be it as it was temorary lettering put on just for the track
the Name was PRO SPEED AND CUSTOM. I also found out, as I am tracing all the owners that this car was real bad not only was it a class record holder but also a real bad street racer. The second owner was delighted to hear that the car was still alive. He told me that he raced the hell out of it
both a t the track and on the street. He told me he had to replace the front windshield and weld the roof because the car was flexing big time. That explains why the front windshield is not the origionalone in the car. One night he was racing a Hemi Cuda 4 speed for 100.00 per gear.
Yes he
ate the Hemi."As it was clearly understood the the Camaro had a 427 under the hood". The car did 10:50s at the track. There are a lot of other stories and hope to share some with you. He kept most of the time slips for the car so
hopefully I can get old track pics and some time slips for the car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

Fred Hurst's National record holding Gasser is here in the burb's waiting its turn for the resto shop. It has only had two owner/racers and then was sold to a collector, who then sold it to the current owner.

Its a very cool piece of drag racing history.
