We move in on June 15. It's coming together pretty quick. It should be done by late May but we don't close on our current house until June 15.

Lewis,

How many muscle cars those garage bays going to hold?
I can see two, possibly three in there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I'm calling it a 4 car garage. The 4th spot (it's double deep behind the single garage door, 50'deep total) could fit 2 cars. It is 24x16 back there while the front 3 spots is 32'wide by 26'deep. It would be a very tight fit for 5 cars.

Get in there and wire every room for cable, telephone and possibly audio while you can. I did this and it has been great. Every room in the house including the garage is wired and ready and there are no exposed wires. I might also suggest you run a black gas pipe and hot/cold water out the garage as well us 220v while the walls are open. Just thinking in advance. Nice house by the way! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

We pulled cable and phone into every room. I prewired the garage for 220, cable, phone and stereo speakers. The gas line, flu and power is in for the garage heater. There is also hot and cold water roughed into the garage. I also wired in 6 8' high intensity flourescent lights and 3 ceiling fans in the garage. We put almost 4500' of wire in the house, not counting cable, phone or low voltage stuff.

Geez Lewis, I just gave you that advice an hour ago and you goterdone already! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif I guess I forgot some things too.

Sounds like you will really have the place ironed out and ready to work. Can't wait to see the finished garage.

Yeah Bud - better put slicks on all 4 corners for better suction. Good luck with that project. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Fortunately alot of my friends and coworkers have built houses in the last 4-5 years. I have listened and remembered the things they said they would have done different. I tried to do everything I could want but the only thing I didn't get ($) was floor drains in the garage. I would have had to run a seperate drain all the way out to the sewer in the street. I don't remember how much it was but I didn't even consider it after I heard the price.

If you are planning to get a compressor or have one run some copper feeds to approx locations for outlets. As well as a feed to the outside for bleeding condensation from the tank. If cost is a concern cut back on the plumbing to the rest of the house, who needs 5 bathrooms anway :<)

Looks great....is there a washroom for the garage so all your beer drinking pals don't have to track through the house and upset your woman....or piss outside and entertain Mrs. Kravetz next door? .

Bathroom was put right inside the door leading to the kitchen. No need to go any firther through the house. We ordered the cabinets tonight. Counters, tile and flooring are being ordered Friday. The drywall is done and the 1st coat of mud is on.

notstock71, fun stuff, we have built all our homes new each time we needed a change, fun to desighn them and have them come together, no matter how many times you do it, there is always a Doh!! when almost done.

Sam I have to be creative, if I stack them and the floor flips I think I can get all my stuff in one of those goofy three door units they sell down there...looks like I cant build my own place due to the water thing...fries my bvd's , I dont have a spare mill around for a over priced place with a motorhome barn out back.

I didn't hear you say that you pulled CAT5E ethernet cable anywhere! If you haven't closed up some of the walls, run it now. Find a place to put a router or ethernet switch (put power, phone and cable to the same place so you can go DSL or cable) and run all the wires from that point out to all the rooms where a computer might go. Putting a network line out to the garage is a really nice addition. When your fingers and cloths are dirty and you want to look up something on the net, you won't have to go walking through the house. Just think, you can post to this message board while sittin' next to your cars! Maybe even a web-cam too!

Cat5 wire is the one thing I did not pull. I spoke with my net provider and I only needed to run RG6 cable for my service for now. I am using the bedroom next to the master bed for my office for now. When the boys get older I will be repossesing the bonus room over the garage for my office. The cable line to the bedroom will be good for the cable and I will be able to pull the CAT5 wire to the bonus room when I ma ready. All of the cable lines each room has it's own (no daisy chains) and they start in the basement under the laundry room. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake. I did notice I forgot to pull a wire to an under cabinet light in the kitchen next to the fridge. It's too late now, drywall is done and the 1st coat of mud is on. The drywallers messed up and put the rounded corner bead on instead of the 90 degree corners. I'm not complaining but I'm not paying for it. I said no and they put it on anyways.:)

Go wireless. You can still run CAT5 to key locations and just add a wireless router. I have one central in my house and my laptop will pick up the signal throughout the house. Its handy for sniping an ebay item while doing the "chores".
Did anybody mention a TV for the garage so you can watch SpeedChannel while you are out there.

I pulled cable and phone in the garage. I also prewired speakers in the front of the garage for the radio.

Just wanted to give the BOYZ something additional to chide me about. I have a 25 year old split level no big deal home.
I did add a laundry tub and a URINAL to my garage. Makes for a great ice breaker with any new guests (especially of the female persuasion) and does save on unneccesary trips to use the indoor plumbing.............

Now tell the truth? Is not the laundry tub and the urnal one and the same?????

looking good. im doing my basement/garage now. added a 20 amp circuit and 6 outlets in the garage, had to run conduit outside the drywall though. basement got 7 outlets on a 20 amp, cat 5 in three locations, surround sound with 12 guage wiring, cable in 3 locations. i did an entertainment built in cabinet with all the connections going to it and branching out. bar sink, bar still working on the details and a urinal as soon as i can find the stink pipe to vent it. hung the majority of the drywall this weekend.

Post some pics of that basement, I'm looking for ideas how to finish mine. I have some ideas but I am always open to new ones.

Thanks for the compliments and ideas everyone. The doors are always open to you and the garage fridge is stocked with "refreshments".

Lewis, it must be the season for building in the midwest. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Glad we got "locked in" on our mortgage rate before they started going up. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I’m just a couple of hours east of you in Des Moines. In fact, we were in Omaha yesterday afternoon (Saturday) at Nebraska Furniture Mart looking for new furniture for our new home. We just moved in but it isn’t completely done yet. We still have sidewalks to pour, the yard to seed, the siding on the outside to paint, etc.

Here are some photographs of our new home and the detached shop I also had built for the "toys". http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Wow, I really like the house and the shop is to die for. If you come back to town and have some extra time let me know. I'll be hitting the Mart soon for the appliances. Did you get what you were looking for or just browsing? That place is so busy it's insane especially on the weekends. I will only go there on weekday mornings right after they open.

Keep me in mind if you get back to town.

Thanks Lewis.

No............didn't purchase anything yesterday at "the Mart". Liked a bedroom suite there that we are thinking about buying for the master bedroom and a dining room table and chairs also. Needed to look at living room furiture also but ran out of time.

If we decide to come back, will try to give you advance notice and maybe we can hook up.
