Breaking news from the WSJ...
"MARKET ALERT
from The Wall Street Journal.
April 17, 2006
Crude-oil prices settled $1.08 higher at an all-time high of $70.40 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, lifted by concerns over declining gasoline stocks in the U.S., supply disruptions in Nigeria and tension over Iran's nuclear program."
Here in New York we're touching rough $2.75 regular...

I heard $3.50/gal by mid summer. Right now in Eastern WA - $2.70/gal
Seattle Sam

It's gone up at least 30 cents in three weeks - it's around $2.87 in Seattle right now for regular. News stories ike this will add a dime by tomorrow probably...
There is no competition in this market (Puget Sound), with so few suppliers. Here in Washington the supplier is allowed to charge different amounts to different outlets for the same product. So the Chevron store on 3rd and Main might be paying 20 cents a gallon less than the Chevron store on 23rd and Pine for fuel off the same truck. Sounds like selective price gouging to me, they are allowed to raise their price based on "prevailing rates" or another words charge more for wholesale if the neighboring station is charging more for retail.

What a ride!!! The gas prices go up almost as fast as the bids at BJ http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif....We have the full range of price with some places at $3.30 for super and regular in the $2.85-3.05 range... Check the stock market reports for the oil companies..all have record profits!! We are getting fleeced and nothing is being done about it. NYS has very high taxes so the gas prices really are thru the roof. Interesting how the prices go up when the weather gets nicer and folks can get out and drive. When I was in FL last month regular was around $2.00 gal in Orlando area....

With a US gallon being approx. 4 litres and factoring in the dollar exchange around 15%, gas per litre today here in Peteboro' Canada being $1.02 Cdn. is equal to about $3.55 US per US gallon! . She sure ain't the 35-40 cents a gallon like when our favourite cars were new no more fellas!

No doubt. When my dad bought his 56 Chevrolet Belair convertible new back in Chicago, he remembers the price of fuel being $0.25/gal. He said he could cruise all night for a couple of bucks.

We are not close to $3.00 we are past $3.00. In all seriousness it's the diesel that is in my opinion scarry. If diesel continues to go up everything will cost more. Probably a lot more. Shame is nobody is doing anything about it. ( I recently heard that the US military is the number 1 consumer of fuel in the world. Anyboby able to confirm that ? )
I filled up in Ashville NC this a.m. at $2.79, In Berea KY it was $2.95 a gal and back home in Ohio ONLY $2.65.Just twice as much as we spent last year.

$2.79 a gallon in Minnesota.. Something needs to be done about this. Im going to have to break out the Whizzer to get around soon! I think the White House needs to do some spring cleaning and get rid of a few people and replace them with ones that work for the people. Personally Id like to see an average good middle class hard working guy become president and do whats right for America.. Its time we take care of ourselves tap into our own oil in Alaska and the Gulf, and do what needs to be done. Now that Im venting whats up with giving these 911 hijacker conected people trials? Its plain as day that they are connected AlQaeda guys.. why waste tax payers money and drag these trails out..Just Tie them up in down town New York and let the victims familys stone them. (Eye for an Eye. There just to many cry babies and hunmanitarians these days thats why the world is going to heck! If it became law that the first time you got could stealing you got a finger chopped off 2nd time a hand chopped off and 3rd time an arm chopped off or if you got caught raping a woman or molesting a child you got your yahoo chopped off..THINGS WOULD BE DIFFERENT!! Screw ups get away with anything these days and we all pay the price. Just because Iran or who ever is trying to make a Nuke that wouldnt come to light for years its all of a sudden affecting our gas prices today?? The news shakes things up to much too..

How about: Where's the outrage?
President Bush summed it up when he said "America is addicted to oil." Addicts don't care how much the stuff costs, they just want to know if they can get it. (Yes, I am an addict and my 92-octane stuff just went over $3.00 a gallon.)
Think $70.00 a barrel is high? Watch what happens when we launch the pre-emptive strike on Iran to halt their nuclear program. $3.00 a gallon will look like the good old days.

I hesitate to get into these conversations as they tend to get pretty partison, but I was just watching cable news, and they were saying part of the reason that the prices were going up was a shortage of corn to make ethanal. That is pure BS. We've got a glut of corn here in the midwest, and the price per bushel tend to drop, rather than rise. I've got 3/4s of a million bushels just up the road from me waiting for the prices to go up so farmers can get a little profit.
Now there maybe a shortage of conversion plants, but that's not what they said.
Be you Democrat, or Republican, this country needs to have a plan, like Kennedy stated,"A man on the moon in ten years" to do the same with energy independence. We could, and should me self sufficient in less than ten years. It's not just a matter of filling up your car, it's a matter of national security. To not address this issue with that degree of importanence, is pure incompetence.
Anyway, on the issue of a corn shortage, someone is lying. Again http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

I'll look when I'm filling up next but I think there's a little sticker on the pumps here in Ontario Canada that says 'contains up to 10% ethanol'? . I wonder about ingesting any by siphoning etc. as isn't ethanol highly toxic?

Here's a few gas prices at the pump from around the world in US$ equiv. gallons....a few are unbelievably cheap! . Aside from the political tensions it would be nice to keep a garage full of musclecars in one of these cheap-gas places? .
~ Pete
Netherlands $6.73
France about $5.80
Most other major European countries $6.00
Japan about $4.50 a gallon.
China less than $2 a gallon.
In Iraq, until recently, 10 cents a gallon but risen to nearly 40 cents a gallon!
Iran less than 35 cents a gallon!
Venezuela 12 cents a gallon!

Are we not the country that not so long ago used to take millions of bushels of corn out into the Atlantic Ocean and just dump it.It probably still happens we just dont hear about it.At that time we were having problems feeding people as we are today, why not put it to use and stop some of the hunger? Not that we could ever make it happen, but,if everyone filled up on one day and didnt put any more gas in until the next week that would cause such an uproar at the stations that you would think something would happen. How about uncapping all of the wells that were capped in the 70s-80s with 40percent of the oil left in them because it was to costly to refine it.Now it would make $$$ sense to take it out.I can remember going down to the corner station and putting .15cents in to fill the tank.I think 32.9 a gallon.Right now its 2.90ish for no-lead.

The bottles thing....kids today have been missing out on the fun? . I remember one winter day finding a jackpot box-load someone dumped in the bushes at the side of the road w/ about 50 of the 2-cent bottles and a dozen or so of the 5-cent ones. . Me and my chum were long past the gum and candy games and spent it all on a few gallons of gas and had a great weekend on the snow machines! . That smell of two-strokes seemed to have us under a spell....then we discovered girls and the world has gone all crazy ever since? .
