Been meaning to get you pics for awhile.. This is my 70 RS/Z28 , I have had the car for about 15 years, lost it for a couple but reaquired it about 1 year ago. I've just finished a refreshing you might say. A good number of years ago it was in many national mags and has always done very well at the Camaro Nationals level. The Ertl company documented the car for all their second generation die-cast. The first production model was in Citrus Green. She is totally numbers matching, having gone thru more of a frame on resto when I first purchased her she retains very original. It is a 4-speed car with 3;73 gears, custom interior and rear defogger. I am not the computer guy so it seems I have to send in a couple of emails as the files to large. Thanks and cheers...

Very nice ride. RS, Z, Citrus - way cool! How 'bout some pix of the custom interior. Any story behind that given that the rest of the car is so stock?

Thanks guys for the compliments, much appreciated... Jim Sullivan ?!.. now there is a name form the past, drop me a note Jim..
Sam, it is a completely stock "custom Wood Grain" interior.

Beautiful car but, what is the deal with the stripes on the back? I thought the stripes stopped at the base of the spoiler and had rounded corners and the smaller pinstripe wrapped around. Has the car been repainted at some point?

First off I see the attachment didn't work on my post, sorry bout that.. The stripes, incorrect from what I've always seen and read, but I was never able to figure out when/how it got that way.. When I found the car 14 years ago it was that way, car was extremely orig and complete, every component was orig to the car.
The paint from the doors forward is original from all the info I got at the time and I never found out different. I had the quarters done and back clip cleared.. So I still have no idea on how, when.. could it have been a factory goof ? Just don't know.. Funny though, when Ertl documented the car for the model the stripes came out that way to, so the model matches the car... You can see updated pics of her at www.perrystoys.zoomshare.com (http://www.perrystoys.zoomshare.com) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
Often thought about having them corrected as it would'nt be hard..

As a 70 Z owner myself let me say that you own a very beautiful car Perry. Mine is Forest Green with white stripes. I believe there are some pics of it here in the "other events" forum under the pics from Lombard kick off night link if you're interested. Again, an awesome car perry!!!

In as much as a dark green is my favourite color I think Citrus green is the ONLY color for a 70 Camaro. I have fond memories of a few hair raising rides in a 70 Z that a friend of mine bought new in March 1970 Citrus green at that.

Hi Perry your car looks fantastic. Glad you got her back. BTW she looks even better in person. The last time I think I saw you was at the ICC pocono show in 97.

Thanks Steve, boy it has been awhile.. I've done a lot to her since she came back home. Wanted to throw something out here, I'm posting it on the 2nd gen site also, not sure if I should put this somewhere else here.. Someone asked me about my back stripes again so I got thinking.. A possibility I never thought of.. When I remove the spoiler those stripes run full length of trunk. Looking in Hoopers 2nd gen book it does show a stripe diagram of a non spoiler car, with the Z28 emblem placed on trunk in center. When I feel up inside my latch in that area sure feels like a hole has been filled ! Has anyone ever seen a non spoilered 70 Z ????

Not a factory Z/28. ALL 1970 Z/28's had spoilers, it was part of the Z/28 package. The spoiler became an option for the Z/28 in 1973 as did the stripes.

This 1970 L.A. Z-28 stripe issue has become increasingly perplexing as more L.A. Z's turn up with a variety of deviations from the ONE and ONLY assy manual.
I personally have a problem with your stripes appearing on the trunk lid below the spoiler.
I would like to hear, read and learn MORE!!!!!!!!!

Me to Chuck, this is a Norwood car so even more strange.. Paint is orig on much of the car.. Owners back to second say thats how they were... Can't imagine why, IF someone painted them why not re-do the way they were ?? The stripes run the whole length of the lid under the spoiler.. Thought about changing them numerous times but something holds me back...

Dave Rifkin

Maybe the car was originally built without the spoiler and was added at a later date http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Perry, it has been many years, but if I am not mistaken, when I looked at the car it had been freshly repainted. This was shortly before you bought the car. The owner was into Harleys'. I remember inspecting the body very closely and I am pretty sure about my recollection. I believe during the repaint a mistake was made....JMHO

Hey Steve.. Must be another car, paint looked far from fresh at first.. The car had some work done in the quarters 6 or so years before I bought but it wasn't done right and rust was coming thru.. I had them corrected and quarters blended. I've never found signs of a total re-paint, but I've never gotten to the orig owner either just the second so I.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Steve Shauger

The car had rust repair that was questionable on both quarters, bottom of doors and front lower fenders. It also had a passenger quarter rear antenna. Although the body work was done incorrectly the paint looked very good. It may not be the same car; I looked at it probably 15 years ago.

Perry, Whatever the past circumstances, your 70 Z-28 as you currently have it looking is certainly a great example.
I will 2nd with what Rick H has already alluded to. I have never seen, read or heard of a 1970 Norwood Z-28 with one piece spoiler, having stripes that ended as yours do, as well as extending down to edge of the deck lid (trunk)
It has always been my experience to have Norwood 70 Z-28's with one piece spoilers(Non COPO), ONLY follow the assembly manual specs, with 9" between the major L & R stripe.

Just wanted to clarify my post. The car I looked at 15 years ago, most likely was not Perry's car and I was describing it to make that determination. Regarding Perry's car, it is a fine example and one which I wish I owned. Further Perry is one of the good guys.

Thanks to all for the kind words, I've had some amazing things happen for me with this car, the Ertl deal, all the mags in the past but hanging out with Tom Shaw for the photoshoot for MCE was a blast..
Steve you're one of the good guys also..
Chuck- thanks for the compliment, does mean a lot coming from you.. Car will die with me and have no plans for it to make the trip to PA ever again but when/if I change those stripes I'll send you a pic.. If I make it to Carlisle this year will make a point to stop and say hello. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
