Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know Ebay... but maybe there is some morsel of truth in here? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...A%3AIT&rd=1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8065869168&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)

I don't remember Van-T in Topeka, I thought they were in KC (Mission, Kansas if I'm correct) I used to see their tags on late 60's stuff around here all the time...maybe they had an office in Topeka as well, can't remember (or I was too young/not born yet? If any of the rest is true it might be a cool project car? Maybe it's just an old grocery getter...but if it isn't? Anyway, I liked the vintage pics, and it's worth a click for that if nothing else! (IMHO) Just thought I'd toss this one out there...

Did the 69 Nova CoPo's come with 427's?

camarojoe
05-17-2006, 05:25 AM
68 had the TH400 COPO 396/375 Novas, 70 had the COPO LT-1 350, but there were no COPO 427 Novas built in 69...or any other year for that matter.

camarojoe,

i once heard speculation that kevin suydam's 69 SYC Nova might have been a COPO. i read it on his forum of his website (before the site was changed). has this been confirmed or denied??

So, the 69 Yenko Deuce, which was a 350 right? Was that engine stock GM or Did Yenko "beef it up" ?
New territory for me!
Tks,

The 69 Yenko Novas were all transplants from SS396's as far as I know...I have not seen or heard of any proof to contradict this. Have never seen proof that ANY 427's were factory installed in Novas.

The 70 Yenko Deuce had its LT-1 350 factory installed as part of the COPO package. The engine was essentially the same one installed in the Z/28. The factory rating was 360hp, but Yenko removed this rating from the air cleaner decal, leaving only the "350" portion remaining. While I believe most were sold unmodified, its quite possible that some received some tuning/modifications at Yenko. Marlin might have some further documentation on this.

So, Strictly speaking, the 70 Deuce was no more powerful than a 70 Z28? I understand that there is a historical differance, and that affects value and desireability(sp) as much as performance does in some cases.
Thanks for the clearup!

camarojoe

Correct. Not more powerful than a LT-1 Z/28, just alot cooler. I think that's paraphrasing what you already said. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually, they are quite different. Only the "by" part is similar.

I emailed him asking about original engine, trans, bill of sale, POP and any other paperwork. Here's his answer..
"The car did not come with anything other than the sticker on the window. You might be able to get a list of vin numbers from cheverolet for the production order that this car came out of...not that important to me. Maybe if I was going to professionally restore it I would.

I did not keep any of the original engine parts...I left them in a salvage yard after a race in Arkansas City, Kansas (blown up bad!!!)."

Can't make out the emblem on the back SS panel on the right side. Almost looks like the Hurst/Olds emblem.

The emblem you see is a "Hurst Equipped" aftermarket emblem... commonly found on ebay or in Summit/Jegs catalogs.

get yours...12 bucks (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hurst-Equipped-Racing-Emblem-Olds-Oldsmobile-mg_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQitemZ464101423 9QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

He has no docs on the car. He said he threw away " all that stuff years ago" and said that the order form didn't show any of the special order stuff anyway.......

"I purchased this car new in 1969 from Van –T Chevrolet in Topeka Ks., via Dickie Harrell in KCMO. Harrell was instrumental in helping me get this car. Van-T was well known in the 60’s for being a supercar dealer, but this car had to be located as it was special order car that had been shipped to KCMO (as part of a Central Office Production Order). It was one of only 500 built like it in 1969."

"Originally it came with the L89 package, HIPER 402 CI BBC, 785 Holley with dual feed bowls, 4-speed with a Muncie floor shifter with no console, and a 355 positrac 12 bolt. It had power assist disc brakes on the front wheels (changed to non-power later). It was radio and carpet delete, and had the SS package, interior and exterior décor packages and was Le Mans blue with black interior. It came with a straight back seat. The original headliner is still intact and looks like the day I got it."

It's a COPO, and an L89 Nova, yet it's only bringing $2,325? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif I think we're ALL missing the boat here! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Tom williams was telling me about a guy at the rhineback car show a couple of weeks ago that said he also had an original L89 nova. This is odd two weeks later a car is on e-bay stating an original L89 car! This show was in New York and the seller is in Oklahoma, so most likely can't be the same person.
I'm sure tom will give his 2 cents.

I had a discussion with a pretty knowledgeable individual about L89 novas the other day. He said he knew of a guy who had recieved a new 69 L78 nova with the al heads in the trunk. They were then installed at the dealership.
Mr Howie and I subsiquently had a phone discission, and again agreed to disagree. While there is no good reason for GM not to install those heads at the factory, this guy had no reason to make up the story. Not the first time I've heard of them being dealer installed from day 1 either. Maybe someone could check the paperwork on this one if you're at the auction.
Be gentle with Mr Howie. He's been a little under the weather lately. Between the medication, and the self over medication. That, and I heard they're thinkin about wallin off Albia, and givin it back to Mexico. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
