Since there are so many of the board members that are in the Chicagoland area- how bad is the traffic rolling west to east on I-80 on a weekday midday? Should be going to MI in mid June and I am wondering if it is worth the effort to avoid the south end of Lake Michigan! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Honest I would say avoid that area if you can plan a more senic route and still be reasonable. I run that way only one time a year coming home from Lake Erie fishing early July on a Sunday night. It can be stopped for what seems like no reason for a suprising long time. Approx 10 miles either side of the border it can be bad. One time we played stop and go for 45 mins only to come upon the hold-up, a group of deer standing boldly on the shoulder waiting to cross. Best wishes

Beware the Borman Expwy.
Even without construction it's a headache.
It's at full throttle construction right now.
Did I mention Beware the Borman Expwy..

Assuming you are coming from Mo., consider taking 70 east to Indy, then 69 north into Mich. That's the way I go if I'm headed your direction. I 69 runs into Lansing and crosses I 94 in southern Mich., if you are headed to Detroit area.
The trip around the bottom of the lake is always and adventure, plus you have to pay a few tolls to experience it.

Rusty, are you listening to this? Stop and go can get kind of hard on an old guy with one hand, and a stick shift truck.

Just talked with one of the truck drivers servicing our account. He lives up by Martin and he said the route to go was I-57 to Ill 14- to Ill 114/In 10 to I-65 North to I-94. I will quiz mapquest a little harder. Is there a better mapping website? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif He said milage from K-zoo to KC was like 630 miles.

I just came back from Toronto last monday and made great time back to Chicago until 3 miles east of the IL line on 80/94 at 2 pm. The contruction and Toll booth at the interstate 80 split going westbound has traffic backed up for miles. It took an hour to go the 6 miles to the 80/294 split.
Even back in March we saw westbound traffic backed up for miles at 2:30 am.
Take the scenic route and avoid the 80/94/294 contruction area!!!
