Hey guys I found a 70 Nova SS 396 4spd.Not original engine,but on a good note it does have a 68 396-375hp engine out of a Chevelle.Silver body,black vinyl top,black bench seat interior,no P/S,does have P/B,12 bolt.Trim tag looks like this.
ST70 11427 WRN017154
731 14 14
09A A 2
The engine has T1013EG 18K122162 stampings on it.I looked it up in the parts catalogs at work to find out it was a 396 Special High Performance.
It needs the usual work lower front fenders, trunk drop-offs.Someone put quarters on it before.Decent job,but why not put drop-offs in it while you are there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Couldn't really see the center of the floor pans, but from what I did see they were old undercoating(looked good).I have not gotten back to the guy yet as to what his bottom $$$ is.Been down most of the week with the flu.I tried to load some pic's,but Photobucket was taking forever so I will try to get them uploaded Sat. AM.Very workable car.Any ideas on a decent $$$ to buy??Thanks for any input.Pic's tomorrow if possible.Seller had $13,400 on his sign.

Sounds like a good deal with that motor. Check the front core support etc...To see if it is a real big block car. Even a small block real SS with that motor is a buy around $10,000. Earl
Thats a very early production number!

Big block core support with small block radiator http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e324/bad1racing/IMG_0770.jpg
Thats it for now.I also thought $10,000 was a pretty alright deal if it could be had for that price.

Sharp!! I like the color. Nice shot of the SS hood brackets too. Doesn't sound like A bad deal at all to me. The more I look at vinyl roof cars, the more I am starting to like them.

I talked to the owner and he said that he has only owned the car for 5yrs.He bought it from a buddy of his,he owned it for 12yrs.The buddy bought it from some dealer in Cedar Rapids Iowa. The way that the car sits is the way the buddy bought it.Asked what he needed out of it,he said"I dont know, but I'm not going to give it away".No serious offers yet but he wanted to know if I wanted to make one.I told him I would get back to him.I told him that I wanted to come back and look at it a little more.He said it was not the end of the world if he didnt sell it,but, his house project kinda went over budget. Its more money than I wanted to spend but I think it is a good investment. The value is only going to go up right?????Time to go wash the truck to take my mind off of it.Probably wont sleep tonight thinking about it.Gotta go.I'll keep you updated. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Kendall,
He who hesitates loses, especially now that you mentioned it here on a public forum. I would go put a deposit on that car asap if I were you, and get a SIGNED and NOTORIZED bill of sale. Unless you can get the cash today, then I would show up with the trailer and cash in hand.
You can bet that people have been blowing up that first pic and trying to get the phone number off of that truck!

Dealer most likely was Rapids. They sold a lot of performance cars in the CR area. Buy it NOW. If you change your mind later, there's probably a line right here who will take it off your hands.

Couldn't get the car for 10k,had to go the full $$$.Thats ok I just couldn't let this one go by.As for selling the 396 Mr.Deuce has first crack at it if and when it gets upfitted with bigger power. He was the first to ask about the motor,or the whole car purchase if I couldn't swing the deal.So being a man of my word he gets the first call.Next, thanks to all who chimed in for me to go buy the car.Thats what makes this board the best. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gifIt is going to be a long week waiting for the check to come.Mr.Cumby I will trade ya even up for that black Chevelle http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gifJust kidding. The family and myself will totally enjoy the new purchase. The best part about it being a 4spd is that my oldest daughter doesn't know how to drive one,but the wife does http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

Tonight the car came home on a trailer. No,its not going to be a trailer queen.Just the easiest way to get it home.Took it off of the trailer and had to go for a shakedown cruise on the road. The wife didnt have a seatbelt on her side but she went anyhow. The car drives nice. The motor pulls like gangbusters, shifts nice, steering is pretty tight. The car has been sitting for a while because the header collector was rusted to the point that it came apart on the test cruise. No damage done. The guy I bought it from I think was having second thoughts about selling it once we got there. He asked me if I was going to keep it or sell it.I told him, keep it.He stood in his driveway watching us as we drove down the road.Nothing against it but I think he was crying as he really didnt want to get rid of it.I told him we would take good care of it.He also wanted to see it after we get it redone.I said we would be happy to come by and show it to him.If anybody wants specific pictures of something let me know and I will do my best to get them posted.I told the wife I dont need anymore gifts for b-day or anything anymore as I have everything I want. For the most part anyhow.Time for bed,no Im not sleeping in the car tonight.

Well a little rear end maint this week revealed from what I can gather is the original rear axle and ring and pinion. The R&P reads like this.
2 GM 3853010 11 39 7 69 I4
The rear axle code reads.
CBT 0829 G1 E
Posi plates need to be replaced as the fluid change didn't help the sometimes snapping when turning from a stop. Our Wynn's salesman gave me a synthetic kit to put in it for free,so I guess all that it cost me is another $3.00 gasket to reseal the rear end again.
Kendall
The Novas are pretty neat. We drove to Houston two weeks ago and picked up a 1970 Nova L78 with bench seat and automatic transmission. The car has the original engine, transmission and 4.10 rear. It's black/black, needs some work, but essentially a nice original car. It belongs to a member of this forum.

4.10 rear? In a '70? What's the code http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
I'll need to check the rear. Original owner put a 4.56 in the unit for drag racing.
YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY
08-28-2006, 08:58 PM
Ok, I think the 4.10 rear in '70 would be a special ordered item - which is why I asked about the code. The Deuces have these special ordered rears with a unique code only found on the copo novas, but I would not be surprised if some big blocks with special ordered 4.10 rears would have received the same code.
Interesting, I'll find the code and report.

Kendall, get yourself a "Car Jacket" for that baby....looks like a big vinyl sleeping bag. You lay it out on the floor and drive the car on it, then cover with cloth cover and zip up the bag. They include moisture absorbing packets with the bag. I over inflate the tires, WD-40 as needed, dryer sheets in and out along with the moisture bags, remove battery, Sta-bil in fuel, good coating of rubber and vinyl treatment and some wax on the outside and put her to bed. You can get the bags from Wayne bushey at National Nostalgic Nova..717-252-4192. I use them on all our cars and they work great!!!

6161x11,You are correct the bikes are way to close to the Nova. That is this weeks job to move them to the other side of the barn. It's just resting right now not in the final position.
Tom,I always said if I ever got a nice car I wanted one of those capsules.Maybe the wife will by us one for X-mas http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif.Maybe I should talk to Kwizz to see how you train those wives!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gifOops I think my wife already has me trained.Yes dear!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Those Michigan winters are devastating to Musclecars. Why don't you let me keep it in warm, Southern Illinois for a few months. She'll be in good company and she'll be able to 'breathe' once in a while. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Yea that's right. The Illinois winters are much, much more milder! They don't even sell snow shovels in your town I bet! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif Nice try Cumby. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif Might as well leave it with Tricky Ricky Nelson or maybe Darren in the rust belt! Those guys will throw a set of chains on er and take her for a Sunday newspaper or to church. Yea let Ken T. have it. Its pretty warm his way too.http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/youguysrock.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Kendall, I'm not talking about one of the capsules with the air pump and fan, though it is a good idea. The Car Jacket bag fits loose like an oversize car cover..I would probably use the capsules on some of the cars if I had the room. They are not that expensive..less than $250. Well worth the protection.

6161x11,Yes everyone should have a BB Nova. Its kinda funny about the color,I've always liked the blues light or dark it doesnt matter, but this car has grown on me from the instant the wife and I saw it.Just so happens that everything that we own is silver, gray,or pewter right now.If I had my way I would have a whole barn full like Tom Williams http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif.
Dennis,I will let you have the Nova for safe keeping this winter if I can have that ole' Black Chevelle for safe keeping during the summer http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif.I'll take real good care of it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif.I might even wax it without using a SOS pad http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif.
One thing I do know is that I need to get that engine out of that car before I hurt it.Mr Deuce is first in line for it so dont ask http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Can-I-Have-It.gif.Its just to much fun to go out and drive it hard so before something happens to it I'm gonna do some serious looking at a crate engine that I can go out and abuse. The engine is worth more complete than with a rod out the side of it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
Anyhow I just love the Nova and it would take something major to happen to get it away from me.

Hey Bruce it doesn't matter how it starts out as long as it has a BB in it.Besides it looks sleeperish w/out engine badges and sittin low.Way to sneak up on them.My first Nova,a 71SS,started out as a 350 4spd. and ended up as a 454 4spd.
