Great pictures Dan. Keep 'em coming if you have more http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No results available on the Mecum website yet.

When looking at the $275K for the 69 Velle L89 ragger, maybe that one on Ebay recently needing full restoration might not have been a bad deal at about $80K http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

When they do get the results on the website I sure hope they include the "bid to" price for the ones not selling.

Great shots, Dan and it was a pleasure getting to talk with you again.

It was a GREAT day and I have to Thank Steve B. and Jay R. for allowing me the pleasure of driving several of the Nickey/Chicago cars across the block. I'm still sportin' wood!

I will give you some of the prices, as I took a few notes and being the sick M-F I am...have an uncanny memory for "useless" information!

I also managed to shoot close to 400 pictures, so if anyone is looking for anything, let me know!

The ZL-1 lot included three (3) engines. Two were complete, carb to pan, and the third was a bare block. As i recall, one complete block was one out of a car (can't remember car number) and the other described as a Yenko ZL-1 engine. The third was the current production block (bare). Bid to $50,000...reserve near $100,000.

What is the story on Yenko ZL-1 engines? I remember seeing a red '69 Camaro on eBay (and discussed here) with what they described as a Yenko ZL-1. Are these the blocks with "YENKO" cast into the front of the block? Would love to learn more about these engines.

Rich,

Yenko took up where Chevy left off with the ZL-1 engine program, sometime in the mid-70s. The Yenko ZL-1 program was ran out of the old building at Canonsburg, (Yenko Chevrolet had moved to Mc Murray) with Bill “Smithy” Smith in charge.

I have seen two types of Yenko imprints on their engines, the word Yenko or the Yenko crest. The blocks came two ways, either with or without water passages. From what I was told most, were installed in stock cars or boats, with a few NOS old ones still floating around. Ken Barnhart just recently installed one in his ZL-1 Camaro.

I have never seen documentation of a Yenko ZL-1 block being installed in an automobile by Yenko.

The reason many cars didn't sell is because this is mainly a reserve auction. Most of the cars have a set reserve.

Many of the car owners were expecting a record sale price for each and everyone of their vehicles.

Many record selling prices were set and many by dealers who expect to be reselling the cars at a profit.

It was one of the best gatherings of Vintage Muscle I have ever experienced.

The Drag'in Snake Sold for appox $1.5mm or so

A Mr Norm's Super Stock '64 Hemi sold at $350,000 or so.

Silver Cross Ram Z28 $150,000.00 or so.

We sold a few cars as well as many of the bikes.

Many thanks to all who helped out and stopped by to visit, especially Bob Ashton who naively volunteered to get in the cars on a 90 degree and 100% humidity day and drive them across the block for us http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

How much was the buyer's commission? Jim

Mr70
05-30-2006, 03:51 PM
Sellers pay 6% commission ontop of final selling price.
Buyers commission fees for Mecum/Rockford May 2006 were:
Final Vehicle price..........Buyer pays an extra
$0 to $5,499.00.......................$300.00
$5,500 to $9,999.00.................$500.00
$10,000.00 and up...................5%
Vehicles 5 years old & Newer......3%
NON Automoblies lots................10%

mockingbird812
05-30-2006, 06:57 PM
Those are a darn sight better than the biggies out here in AZ. 8-10% for seller - usually ends up being 8%, then 8% for buyer.

So, the RG sells for 340K & buyer pays 5% (17,000) he actually pays $357K. Seller pays 6% (20,400) and nets $319,600. Mecum makes $37,400 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Not siding with anyone, but Danas' tent rental fee for this event alone had to be more then most make here in a year.
Excluding Belair if you're commutin to Deerfield. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Wow, absolutely freakin ironic! The little ole red Deuce brings more money than "Motion" Camaro's and "Harrell" Novas. Boy oh boy, just think, the car could have been had 2 years ago for only $50G. I think seeing that made my week. And to think "the car is nice but not that nice" and it don't have the original motor" and "run them Deuce values up fellas!", "it's just a small block", and my favorite, "the Antiques road show Deuce." The seller is laughing all the way to the bank!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh yeah one more totally ironic thing. Both buyers on my car were BOTH "outsiders." No one from any known website ponied up for it. Interesting. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

I love Motion cars but it doesn't seem that the auction block is a good venue for them...

All results are now up on the Mecum website. I'm sure we'll be seeing some show up in ads soon.

I thought one of the more interesting sales was the 11,000 mile '71 Z28......$78,750, not bad.

[/ QUOTE ] Darren, how many of the Zs there were 'real' and/ or 'correct'? We were there Friday and I'm sure I saw at least 2 fake tags. The one in this pic is an X77, check out the X33 trim!
