View Full Version : 1970 Z28 4 speed vs. automatic
Not really racing, but I got to drive a 1970 Z28 yesterday that is owned by a board member. The car is a 4 speed with a wide ratio Muncie and a 3.73 rear. What a blast, this is a nice original car that runs like the day it was born. I had just taken another 1970 Z28 with an automatic and 4.10 rear for a test drive, drove it about 20 miles yesterday and had it shifting near redline with the M40. What an absolute blast with an automatic and a solid lifter motor. It was interesting to compare the automatic with the 4 speed back to back. Both wanted to spin all the way through first gear and the M40 hit hard when shifting into second gear. It seemed to kick harder if you lifted a bit. I must admit, this is my first experience with any solid lifter/M40 combination and I loved it. I would love to try an L78 or L72 combination with an M40. Bet that would get your attention........
Thanks, Paul.

Automatic and a 4:10 was the set up for go fast at the drags with the '70 model. More consistant ET's too.
Just not as fun as the 4 speed which encouraged you to rev it to the limit - soon resulting in a CE block.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
