Is this a Nickey supercar or just another Chevelle sold through Nickey in 1968?

I like how is says restored and then you can look at the picture with the trunk open and see rust and lifting on the vinyl top down low. If the guy was honest he'd have a heck of alot better chance selling the car. P-0-P looks pretty darn new/shiney too. Neat car Id have interest if it could be proven Nickey sold it.

Here is the scoop. The seller, very honorable and super Nice guy. He only knew that he had a big block Chevelle/former steet racer, which had passed through a few of his buddies hands over the last 20 plus years. He bought if from the previous owner of almost 20 years, after his divorce and has had it for just 5 years.
He is not a collector, numbers or even a computer guy. He didn't even know what the protecto-plate was, or codes on it meant, other than it had the cars VIN on it. He didn't even know what an L78 is!
He needed to raise some cash for a summer home and decided to put the car for sale. This car was only driven a few miles per year and mostly sat for the past two decades.
He hired an ebay company to rep the car and they provide the write up. It was the ebay writer who informed him of the signifiance, of the car having been sold at Nickey Chevrolet.
The Chevelle is a true L78 car, with its original protectoplate. It does not however have the original L78 drivetrain.
The story, as he told it was that the car was a well know street racer from day one and had a different engine configuaration when originally steet raced. He did replace the 4.56 gears it had with 4.11s.
Obviously, I have not had the chance to fully research the car at this point.
Factory Equipment: L78, 4 speed , 4.10 gears, Buckets/no consol, Gauges, Vinyl top, AM radio.

Spoke with Frank the third owner of the Chevelle again today. He lives in WI, but says his Uncle, who painted the car Silver, in his garage, back here, in the burbs, may have the name of the original owner.
When Frank purchased the car from the second owner it had a 283, 4 speed, bench seat, 4.56 gears and a Flat non SS hood. The second owner had a green SS hood which was included, with the deal.
He put a 396/325 and rebuilt 4 speed in the car, which might be what is still in the car today, although it was rebuilt and hopped up, by the owners, builder of choice prior to me.
He met the original owner, when the original owner saw the car, at the Uncles house/garage, getting ready to be painted.
The original owner confirmed that the car was an L78 and that he had blown up an engine (might have been the original L78) as well as fragged the flywheel, which caused some damage to the fire wall. The damage was still visible at the time.
The next engine to go into the car was a 427, which he believes was in the car until he sold it to the second owner.
Frank belives the car was also raced at the local tracks as well as on the street with the 427.
Does anyone remember a White, Black vinyl top, black bench, Flat hood '68 Chevelle SS, the car also had Rally Wheels on it, running around the neighborhood or local track?
Frank thinks the original owner was from Wheaton or Villa Park?
Villa Park!
I'll ask around.
