Hi Tom - I am putting together a benefit for my nephew...long story short my brother and his wife live in Paraguay, South America...she had to go back for two years to fulfill an educational contract with her country and in the middle of April she had emergency surgery to remove the baby because the placenta was dying...this resulted in my nephew being born about 3 months early - weighing 1.1 lbs and 7 inches long...which makes him the smallest surviving baby in Paraguay history...insurance only covered the first 21 days of hospital care and pre-natal care now costs $700/day and being in third world country my brother and his wife don't make that much money in one month and the catch is you have to have all your bills paid before they release the person/baby from the hospital - I think that borderlines kidnapping in the US. I am scheduling a benefit for Saturday July, 22 in Manitowoc, WI. I know there are very few members that are in my area - but thoughts and prayers are helpful as well. If you would like/prefer I can send you an email of what I would like to post.
Thank you for your time and consideration to this matter

Fred

Hope all works out for the best, for you and your Family. If it works for you, Nickey Chicago can donate some goodies to raffle off or something? Let me know.

Tom - first off I want to thank you for allowing me to post this on the website, I am extrememly greatful of any/all help.
Second - I would like to add some information to my original post that Tom made for me. There are a couple options available for baby Nathan such as moving him to a public hospital which is less expensive or another option they are looking into is the US consolate said they could use the US medical helicopter to bring Nathan back to the US but they would have to pay for the fuel which would be at minimum of $20,000. They have already tried the option of the less expensive public hospital which is a horror story in itself...last week Sunday Nathan was transferred to the public hospital and Friday we found out that he had a broken arm and a broken leg...if you know about children that age their bones a quite rubbery so it would take some significant bending of the limb to break it...the story gets worse, Jenny (Nathan's mother)was the one who discovered the broken limbs on Friday...Nathan gets an x-ray taken every two days to monitor his internals, well Friday Jenny decided to take a look at the x-rays herself, well she noticed the broken bones on her own...upon further investigation of the previous 2 x-rays from Wednesday and Monday (Nathan was transferred Sunday) the broken bones were already in the x-rays from Monday so the doctor at the public hospital had been looking at x-rays for a week and never saw the broken bones and the untrained eye of my sister-in-law noticed it. The hospital staff just played the "I don't know" card as to how Nathan showed up at their without broken bones (based on x-rays from the first hospital) and in the course of the first day there he had 2 bones broken and no one noticed it on the x-rays nor noticed that Nathan was no longer moving his arm or leg which happened to be the ones which were broken...it is a very sad situation and Nathan has been transferred back to the private hosptial.
For those who have offered to donate items for the benefit we would be extremely greatful to accept them. They can be mailed to:

Just me an email or PM so I know to look for them...if there are any money donations, checks should be made out the Communty Benefit Tree so it becomes a tax excempt.
For anyone who is going to be in the area the weekend of Saturday July, 22...the benefit will be held at The Linebacker in the Green Room. I am in process of putting together a poker run with the classic cars that will be attending.
