I believe this is a Federal crime, not to mention against Ebay's policy......

He also has an auction for blank Trim tags. Why can't law enforcement put this bleeding sore on the ass of the hobby away for good?????????? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

These guys should be shut down. The VIN tag seems to have been stamped from the front instead of from the back. That's a way obvious blunder. I like how he describes it, "neat little stainless gadget". I can't see how ebay could allow this. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif I sent a note to ebay to report it. Maybe if we all do it something will happen. We'll see.

E bay ain't gonna do squat! They are protected by laW! According to them and so as long as they are not legally in a bind they still make there money!I am beginning to loose all respect for ebay! How can ebay not be legally binded to something like this when they have been made aware it is illegal!

I am not supporting what this guy is selling BUT..eBay is not going to do anything. It's not against the law to sell a piece of metal with CHEVROLET DD stamped on it. There is no visible VIN number stamped that coorelates to a specific vehicle. If there had been, then that would be a different story.

BTW, nowhere does he mention VIN in his auction.

Of course not, that would immediately trigger a red flag. The guy is being deceptive by 'selective omission', and that's the whole point here. eBay may or may not do anything to stop this, but one thing is certain - if no one complains, there's no chance it will be stopped. It takes about 30 seconds and a few mouse clicks to file a complaint, so it's not a great effort http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Although he doesn't use the term "VIN" there is certainly no doubt what it is intended for.

"winner may be eligible for coding of this item after purchasing"

I just tried to report the item number to Ebay again and got a message that the item number was not valid, but then I searched on the number and the auction came up normally. I sent Ebay a message through other means regarding the item.
Ray Charles could tell that's a VIN tag, no matter what he calls it.

Well, maybe a couple of years ago he might have been able too but I highly doubt he could today.

I talked to a Officer today that is an auto theft investigator and he says in Texas it is only ILLEGAL when you actually rivet the piece! VIN TAG on a vehicle without the authorities involvement! He said it goes on a lot and people get busted for it.He told me also that the guy selling this stuff is more than likely being watched by the authorities.I gave him the ebay add # so he could check into it.He said that swapping vins is a very common thing, and that it occurs more than people realize.

Why is this guy loved and hated by so many people?

He is put down for selling trim and VIN tags and then praised for selling "detail items" like this door tag - which includes the VIN.

Very easy: Because one item promotes fraud and assists in the commission of a felony and is a specifically enumerated item of contraband addressed under Federal Criminal Statutes and the other is a decal that assists in restoration. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

.....which is probably where Mr. eBay Ripoff buys his http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif My guess is that the $75.00 also entitles you to the unadvertised special of having yours "personalized" with a number/letter combination of your choosing in a specific type font http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
