Club display at Fall Vettefest

I have had several folks ask about the upcoming Fall Vettefest and what the club was doing.

The sYc will be having a club display, open to all members. Bob assured me at SCR9 we could have all of the room we could fill. Cars in our display can either be for show only or judged. Please let me or Bob know if you want to show int he sYc showcase. Also, if wanting to be judged, be sure and register with Chevy/Vettefest.

In addition to the club display, there will be a special display for cars sold by Chicago area dealers. I think Bob already has a few lined up, but would welcome others.

Reminds me of a Conversation I had with a Jamaican guy one time...........He had never been out of Jamaica before, he flew into Chicago in January and he walked out of the Terminal into a Blizzard......he went back into the terminal and put on everything he had in his suitcase.....he stayed two days and went back.......he wanted to know why us "Crazy" people lived where it's so cold it's uninhabitable........Good Question

The following weekend after the Secretary of State show was even more fun. After the show we got invited to http://www.fccustoms.com/projects.php for an evening party and burnout contest. They asked us to bring the car into their shop for everyone to check out and it seemed to be a great hit. There was likely 300-400 spectators there and some WILD cars. We made sure upon our departure to let everyone know their tune up skills were appreciated but not needed at this time. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

It may be my "biased" view, but is it just my imagination or is the lineup for the sYc Supercars display for this show the best ever?

They are always great with beautiful cars, but I gotta say this lineup blows me away.

Yes, have to agree, the sYc lineup just keeps getting better and better. Not only the quanity, but the quality of cars. I was looking at the list, and not only are there a bunch of Gold Spinner award winners entered, but several Top Gun award winners as well. And, I would not be surprised to see more sYc member's names added to the list of Top Gun award winners next Sunday.

Since you are in one of our featured Showcase area's, we will be providing the stanchions. This also applies to the sYc Showcase area and also all of our 50+ Triple Crown contenders who are not in a club display.

YES, That car is AWESOME. I had the honors of taking that car to many of the local car shows and a photo shoot in Albany for the 2008 Camaro Calender. Talk about a great show. Chad and I literally decided late Friday afternoon to make the trip and were very glad we did. What a great time. This is the only time once a year and sometimes twice that many of the car guys and just as importantly the wives are together that I get to see and it made the trip well worth it. Someone asked me how the cars looked and I responded, "what cars?" This is all about the people!

I did hook up with Bruce, spent a lot of time hanging with him as he introduced me to various people. Bruce, it was great meeting you and thanks for all the intros!

Charlie, a privilege to meet you as well. One of the main reasons I went today was to find you and shake your hand, so you made my day.

"THE" pace car is awesome in real metal and rubber. A genuine time machine, and one of one too boot. That ZL1 pictured above is beautiful as well. Both are original down to the paint, not 20k miles on them together.

Stephano, it was great to see you again. The Nickey Chicago gang was out in force, with some 6 cars there, including a real 69 Nickey Camaro, an unrestored 63 Nova drag car, and the first Nickey "continuation" Chevelle. I've been told the world will soon see a bunch of NEW Nickey Chevelles and Camaros.

Bruce introduced me to a man named Ken, and I spent quite a time talking cars with him and his wife. They'd DRIVEN 4 cars down from Kenosha, including 2 mid 60's Chevelles, both power tour veterans, an L78 Nova, and a slick blue 11 second shoebox Nova. Ken told me a story of how he got roped into buying a 17k mile perfect Camaro, that he didn't want because he'd be afraid to drive it! Ken gives true meaning to the term "enthusiast."

And I met Helen Gibb. The Gibb's had a big display, including 2 of Helen's personal cars. They had set a table OUTSIDE the ropes full of old photo albums from back in the day, right there for anyone to page through and look at. Late in the afternoon, Helen had set her chair right by that table, seemingly just looking for passersby to stop and talk to her. So I did. Wow, I'd love to take her to dinner some day and have more time to pass with her. She has some serious good stories and wonderful experiences and loves to share them. It was funny, I asked her how it felt to be part of making history, and she looked me in the eye and said "young man, we had NO IDEA at that time. We were just living our life, going racing, and raising a family." Helen, thank you for sharing some time with me today.

We all thought it was going to be a real mess getting out of the Convention hall....The doors opened at 6:00 and we waited for about 5 minutes and drove the cars right out...had the car loaded in the Trailer and I was on the Highway and 6:25.........
From my own Personal point of view, I think this location is much better than McCormack Place.....Next year I'm sure getting into the Hall will be a little better, but from my perspective it was still a lot easier than getting into McCormack Place was last Spring.......Way to go Mr. Ashton http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Couldn't possibly agree more Ken. I was very skeptical of Bob's promise that we would be out at his scheduled time. Don &amp; Judi Stowers and Vicki &amp; I were out of the building, loaded in the trailer, strapped down and on I-294 headed South at 6:45 Sunday Evening. That was unbelievable! Like Frankie, I was a little concerned about the move to Rosemont but, based strictly on my experience these past four days, it was the perfect move.

Mr. Ashton, you did a Bang-Up job. There was never an unanswered question, or an issue that wasn't handled immediately. I did and I am not a big fan of white but this car really got my attention. It sat very high just like my '68 SS427 did back in the late 70's, early 80's before I lowered it back down. Very nice car!
