Bruce

I don't know who that is but I do know he had a 4296 carb on eBay for 1,500.00 that did not sell. The week after the 10K ?? 4296 sold he had it back on for 4,500.00. When I emailed him and asked about the increase he said it was do to "market forces". It didn't sell the second time either. He's sniped me a few times as well.......the scum. hehehe

He buys and sells a lot of BB corvette parts on ebay. Not sure who he is. I know it sucks to feel like you lost an auction at the last second, but if you bid the maximum amount you are willing to pay for an item, then you can't get sniped regardless of how early you bid.

exactly. This is what I do..

Hi Bro,
Sorry you missed the Cone Chevrolet item. I went to Ebay Community, and did a search of the members. The orangecountychopper member is listed as living in CT. So, my guess is that he is not connected with anyone on the show. As for swooping in at the last moment on an ebay auction-I do it all the time. Win some-loose some.

If you end up bidding against him be ready for a good battle is all that I can say.

Some of his items also cross over from another ebay username.

I'm not going to name who it is, but I am fairly sure that he is a member and he will speak up if he wants to, when he sees this post.

He's just another ebay buyer, no connection with the TV guys. He just bought some a/c stuff from me on ebay.

I think it is the same person as 427 King. He has alot of the same rare Chevy stuff and lives in the same area, CT I believe. I have purchased parts from both sellers.

Bruce, are you saying that he had a second pair of Cone frames? I was bummed to see that you'd gotten sniped. I should have told you to lay down a defensive max bid! But, you never know who's gonna' lay down some breathtaking amount and beat your max at the last second. I hate getting sniped but I have to admit that I've done it when I really wanted something on eBay.

I read something about auctions that sticks with me: "The winner is often the one who comes in second."

You can always fight fire with fire: www.auctionsniper.com (http://www.auctionsniper.com) I've used it for years as a time saver since I cant be around the computer all the time. You set your max bid and it puts it in at the last minute so that way you dont get into a bidding war with 6 days to go. I've only lost an item when it was well over what my sanity (or my wife) would let me pay. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Steve. Since I'm "new" to the whole ebay thing...I need all the help that I can get (this certainly applies to everything else, too http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Wow...here's some interesting info that I found while searching the internet on Cone Chevrolet...

First, here's some information on a famous "fast" car that came out of Cone Chevrolet

[ QUOTE ]
Old timers will remember the name of Hayden Proffitt. Haden was a transplanted Texan living in Garden Grove, CA. Hayden had been around the drag scene at Santa Ana since the very beginning, with a variety of cars, including a C/Gas Chevy dragster and a nice '37 Chevy B/Gasser. In 1961, Hayden went to work for Mickey Thompson and it wasn't long until he was driving the '61 Pontiac 421 S/S. Hayden was a killer with a stick shift (only a 3-speed back then). In 1962, Hayden installed a 421 engine into a compact Pontiac Le Mans for the first A/FX car. Hayden won the Super Super Stock (SS/S) class and the A/FX class at the '62 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona. Hayden departed M/T in the middle of 1962 and put together a 409 Chevy, running out of Cone Chevrolet. With this car, Hayden took S/S honors at the NHRA Nationals that year.

[/ QUOTE ]

And a picture of that car. Notice Cone Chevrolet/Bill Thomas/Hayden Profitt...way cool!

I also only enter bids at the last possible second in order to keep out of bidding wars and to minimize shill bidding against me. It is hard for some one to push a bid up when you enter it at the last second.
