Ken,
It is so odd that you posted this today. I met with the
guy that is restoring my CX THM400 and he asked me for
the specs on the '69 L/78 ( CX ) torque converter.
So I guess I need that information as well. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe my TurboHydraMatic sheets call it a "2.2" or something like that...but 2200 is the English translation I believe... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It pretty much depends on the torque driving it.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
since I own a torquey Buick, with an L88 convertor, I wouldn't know anything about that http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
1970 Chevrolet in house engineering results,as well as AMA specs show the maximum ratio at stall to be 2.10,which translates to a 2110 RPM stall speed for the 6 lug L-78/LS-6 convertor.
I find this to be accurate on my Chevelle today.

While we are at this, I recently saw a document that covered
the different GM torque converter designs. Did any of you
know ( at least according to this document ) that the
angled slashes "/" around the perimeter of the converters
indicate the applications. According to this document, some
slashes are 45 degrees to the right and others are less than
45 degrees. Still others tilt to the left at some set number of
degrees. I am going to try to get a copy ( or image )
of this document and post it here. Evidently, the
slashes denote SHP vs std vs truck applications.
Does this ring a bell for anybody? Buelher??????

My tranny guy mentioned that to me when we did some stuff on my 68 yellow car. I think he told me the slashes represent the stall speed and he knew what each one meant. I will followup and get more info.

From my understandings the slashes do in fact represent the stall speed as they dictate the angle of the internal vanes. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
