With the recent interest in these fans, I dusted off the one i had book marked for my 67 L78 Camaro, its different from the "$1,600" fan in that it has 5 flat rivots, the fan blades seem to be flater than most others i've seen and its stamped with the #'s "89" (last two of the part # ??). It does have the 3 1/4 bolt hole spacing and is 18 inches in diameter and has the deep pitch (side of the blade measures 2 1/8 inches when laying on a flat surface). One person i have ran this by says its for 1968, 4 rivot for 67....any input on its true ID ?

I have that same fan on my 68 BB nova. I bought it off e-bay last winter and it was listed as an L78 clutch fan. Not sure what it is off of but it has the same measurements you gave. I asked before here what the difference is and no one responded. I don't think the stamp is 89 I think it is 68. Mine has "front" stamped on it. A "W" on one blade and the numbers 68 also. 5 rivets per blade! Maybe someone can help us out and tell us what the difference is.

Jason, when i looked close at my fan that has been blasted, it would seem that the "8" has a smaller top circle when viewed as and "89" as opposed to a "68", making the "89" the choice out of the two, but thats just my take. Lets see if we can get to the bottom of this.

That has 5 rivets.
The EXPENSIVE one has only 4.
That fan is fairly common.
However, if anyone determines that the 5 rivet fan is valuable,
I would love to sell the 3 I have. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, so I go out and look at a fan I have.
It is a 5 blade and has the "H" and "FRONT", but no "68 or "89" on the one side.
It does have the "W" on the other side, and is 4 Rivets.
Is this the EXPENSIVE one? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I just looked at the fan on the 68Z and it has 4 rivets. Since it is on the car I could not see any of the numbers. The fan part number is 3871276 per the J MacNeish book. How much do the 5 rivet fans go for? I need a fan for another car and is sure not getting a $1600.00 fan

Have to put this in perspective.
Sell prices like that only happen to Charley. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/CharleySucks.gif
There is almost no discernable difference, EXCEPT for the rivet count.
However there are plenty of 4 rivet fans around that have the different spacing.
They are worth the same as the 5 rivet one.
What you need is long water pump fan spacing, for a short water pump clutch,
and 5 blades with 4 rivets.
I am sure that makes it crystal clear for everyone. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Here are some pics of the "4 Rivet" fan that I have. It is attached to a clutch that is dated 3-25-68. This set-up came with an L88 engine I acquired recently. I don't know that it is actually for an L88.http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e43/Rixls6/th_68clutchfan012.jpg (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e43/Rixls6/68clutchfan012.jpg)

A couple of questions. Where is the date on the fan clutch? And does anyone restore/repair fan clutches? I have the original fan clutch but it needs repair. Also, I am looking to buy one of the fans that Pacecarjeff describes (not the real thing, but close enough for the car it will be used on), is there a part number for that I can search for on Ebay? There currently is a 5 blade, 4 rivet fan on ebay but it has the 3" spacing not the 3.25 spacing. Thanks for the help.
