LET'S SAY I BREAK INTO YOUR HOUSE

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting
the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal
immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own
borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to
stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind
these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in
your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and
washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all
the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for
when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me
to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits
to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is
hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to
call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your
house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm
just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for
well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it
without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker.
Oh yes, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

The answer is simple Andy. It's never couched in those terms.

I read something last week that I didn't know about the 9/11
hijackers. Evidently, a few of them used the illegal alien ( Mexican )
underground to attain legal documents, which allowed them to
stay in the USA and plan their dasterdly attack. Again, why
don't people learn of this stuff and more importantly, why
is it being kept from the public. Who's interest does it
serve to keep them stream of illegals coming in? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Can we please keep this site about cars ? I come here as I'm sure many others do to take a break from the rest of the world. Many of us have different opinions on politics and it would be nice for this place to be about cars and not politics. This one post is just one of many and reminded that I have been wanting to address this. I have heard from members that were offended by political posts other than this one and I have to agree. This is not a rule here but just something I personally would prefer. Maybe others can chime in on what they do or don't want to hear about on this site and we can go from there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/CharleySucks.gif

Charley,

On so many of the forums I visit, the lounge exists for
topics not directly associated to the main purpose of that
particular forum. I thought our lounge was set up for off
topic discussions as well. I'm sorry if some members here
got annoyed about these topics. I think many members here
enjoy the lounge as can be witnessed by the number of posts.

Honestly, I can't remember anyone posting anything negitive
or asking us to move on or stop the discussion. I don't want
to start any trouble here as I feel that I've sort of found
a home on this forum.

Personally, I find it comforting to see so many here having
similar opinions about issues that effect our country. I
have enjoyed these sometimes spirited discussions and would
hate to see them disappear. I just figured that if someone
didn't care to get involved in the topic, just don't read it.
It's kinda like TV - no.

If we are offending members, I'll stop posting in the lounge.

Steve

Every site I visit has a Lounge or Off Topic area where people can play politics...whats the harm really..if you don't like it you don't have to read it.It doesn't mean the site agrees/disagrees with any of these point of view...

I better not get started on either one! I think I will just standby and watch instead of speaking out! I am already in trouble over the Willie Nelson POST!LMAO If I speak on ILLEGAL ALIENS I would be considered HARSH and UNSENSATIVE! If I spoke on RELIGION some would probably want to Baptize me so why don't we just put all those people with WILLIE and let them smoke a little well maybe a lot and maybe they will all change there minds!Maybe all the MEXICAN ILLEGALS will go home because that is where most of the POT comes from! then there would be jobs for all Americans! Well only the ones that REALLY WANT A JOB ANYWAYS! All the religious fanatics would get so fat from the munchies that the POT caused and couldn't sneak in the USA because they all looked like a GOOD YEAR BLIMP! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif But no I am not going to get started and say anything I am just going to watch!LOL http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

We should talk to each other in the Lounge section as though we were sitting in the same room together. That would dampen most, if not all of the emotional flare-ups.

After reading David Frieburger's column in Hot Rod about how the Internet is ruining hot rodding (because of all the chair-throwing and excessive mean-spirited nit-picking), I do a lot less typing on Internet forums.

Sometimes I find myself typing away and I stop and say to myself, "You're typing again..." and I hit DELETE.

Hell, I almost deleted this.

Keep it respectful of the other guy and at the very least, agree to disagree. Write as if you're sitting next to the other guy at a car show and a lot of the angry emotional reactions will cease.

Remember what your mother told you: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." (And then she'd whack you with a wooden spoon.)

I totally agree with Bill E.

There's been many times in the heat of the moment where I've almost posted something..only to delete it instead.

It's too hard to know where the person is "coming from" in some of the posts. Plus, all the arguing serves no useful purpose other than giving the poster some instant gratification??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

BTW...Mr E. have you made plans yet for January? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

From a female point of view I have found only a few of the topics slightly offensive. And if I find one that is a little to brash for my liking I simply move on to something else. The one thing I do congratulate you folks on is that I find very little offensive language used on this board (especially compared to some of the other sites). That is something I think you should all be proud of. The more I visit this site, the more I realize what a great group of people you all seem to be. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif A lot of diversity with one common passion--MUSCLE CARS!!!
