I just got a new job and would like to celebrate by buying a nice "date car" or "ice cream car" for the family and I. You know...air bags, a/c, don't have to spend time tinkering with it, etc. I want something newer and have a budget of about $60K - $65K. This is not going to be a daily driver for me - weekends only. Prefer 4 seater, but will consider 2 seater. So far, the new Z06 and a '96 993 Turbo are at the top of my list. Any other suggestions?

Spend $5000 to $7000 on a nice 87-90 IROC Z-28 and the rest on converting your garage into a car-shrine/ultimate garage!

Nice Mosport!
NJSteve, one of the perks of the new job is that I can get most construction supplies at cost http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif So, if all goes well, there will be a new house and garage in our futurem http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I just picked up a BMW M3 convertible for the wife w/the SMG paddle shift. I think it is by far the best four seat convertible for the money. She was driving a Porsche Carerra 4 Cab. 6 speed, but the M3 is quicker and much more practical. The rear seats on the Porsche really don't fit kids over 5 years old. The M3 rear seats fit adults with no problem.

We had a 2001 M3 from 2001-2003 and its a rocket. period. black/black coupe with a 6 speed and in sport mode it will run with Z06's, Carerras and any AMG cars. Low end is rock solid but high end is just scary. Its got 330hp in an inline 6... low weight with strong performance.
Cool car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

How about saving a little $$$ & look into the Pontiacs.
The GTO for a 2 door or the
Grand Prix GXP (http://www.pontiac.com/grandprix/gallery.jsp) 5.3 for a 4 door.
Both are extremely affordable & fast.

Good luck on a new Z for 65k,and the Shelby is getting over window also.Dollar for dollar the best bang for the buck IMO is the CTSV.Hard to beat at 40k for a clean used one-elegant performance 4 door sleeper,I love mine!

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys! The Shelby is an interesting option...I'll have to go and do a little research on them. As for the others...it needs to be a 2 door coupe http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Ok, 2 door coupe. How about this one, Mercedes Benz CL65:
This isn't about a car; it's about an engine. Forget Vipers, Ferraris, Bentleys, all those rumbling turbodiesel-powered American trucks, and anything else you think has punch. The CL65's handbuilt, twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 spanks them all, grunting out 738 pound-feet at just 3000 rpm. And that's only because Mercedes-Benz electronically limits it to that number; fully unleashed, it'd be good for a transmission-shredding 885 pound-feet worth. Its 604-horsepower rating almost gets lost in the blur.
AMG's power mongers begin with the architecture of the twin-blown V-12 that powers both Maybach sedans and several upper-deck Mercedes and gives it a significantly longer stroke, upsized pistons, larger fuel injectors, higher intake-valve lift, longer valve-opening duration, larger turbochargers packing 22 psi of boost, a super-large air-to-water intercooler, oil jets that spray the bottom of each piston, and a big oil cooler. This amazing powertrain also can be had in the SL65 AMG roadster. This elegant locomotive's 3.8-second 0-to-60 time toasts that of Viper's and Vette's, all of which average in the low fours. 1/4 mile times are 11.81 sec. @ 120.9 mph http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
At $180K, I guess it's a little over the budget, but maybe you can find a nice used one.

I am going to be listing this G500 for my neighbor.
He paid $80K in 2002.
It has only 17K miles, And I am sure he would accept less then half that.
His is an AMG with all the stuff.
Very Fast SUV.
