I recently had My 69 X66 convertible for sale on e-bay. I listed it primarily for advertisng and it didn't meet reserve there. This is good , one of the bidders I have had contact with tring to close a deal and today he forwarded me bogus second chance offers from e-bay that he received today explaing that I had to sell the car and would honor his bid. It gets better not just 1 not 2 not 3 but 6 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif from different people claiming to own the car and attemping to make payment arrangements. E-bay has got to do something to protect their site as an unknowing buyer could be lured into buying a car like this . The offers were in e-bay form right down to buyer protection . Nice !!!!!

I bid on a 427 a couple weeks ago. So far I have gotten 6 second chance offers from 6 different email addresses. One of them offered it to me for $1500. The auction ended at over $5000 with reserve not met.

I've been getting a bunch of these 2nd chance offers, too. I turn them over to Ebay and they respond quickly. Also, as Charley reminded me, if it's a legit offer, it will show up in your Ebay account Email box. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Just remember this. If you sign in to either paypal or ebay, look up at the address header to make sure where its going. Whats happening now is you win an auction, and a scammer sends you an invoice.Since you won the item you think its legit. All the links go to ebay except the address bar doesnt have www.ebay.xxxx (http://www.ebay.xxxx) thats the only way to be 100% sure....

Only thing I don't understand is how are the scammers getting your email address from bidding on an item? Only thing that shows is your ebay handle......

All you have to do is click on bid history and then click on any bidder on the list... brings up their profile then click contact ebay member... then it emails them.

When you put your pointer on a link.
The bottom bar on your browser shows what it leads too.
Make sure before you click on anything.

Paypal is a (https) secured site = https://www.paypal.com
most password protected sites will start with: "https"

Be carefull.........

Yes, I know that. But the form that ebay sends via that method is totally different than the 2nd chance forms. So my question still stands: how do they send their fake forms to your email address?

Kurt, there are many ways. 1]If the auction has a best offer feature they make any offer so they can get your email address 2]They ask a question and if you dont check the box that says"hide my email address" they will get a response from you showing them your email address. There are a few more ways but those are the 2 most used. I always used to wonder why people would send me a 30.00 offer on a 3000.00 part, but then i figured they just wanted my email address. Also if they hit a buy it know and win the auction, they have your email. They dont pay for the item, but will set you up on an auction in the future with your email info and username..Once they have your email they send the phony second chance offers that are getting increasingly legit looking.... I received one where by clicking on a link it went right to ebay legitimately !!!! Always check the address bar on your computer before you even think of typing in your username and password,it has to have ebay.com not gy.ebay.com for example......Im starting a site called ERG Ebay research group http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
