I looking to buy 3-4 of the Battery Tender type chargers. Anyone have experience with these or other brands. I looked at the Battery Tender Supercharger (Optima) ....and was anticipating going with them....

Any suggestions?

Howard,

In using one of these battery tenders, do you keep the
battery connected to the system? Can one of these also
be used on a tractor's electrical system ( battery )?

*****More than a charger--it's the Extender.
These Battery Extenders from Auto Meter are designed to maximize the life of a 12 V battery.
They charge a battery at a 1 amp rate until it is fully charged,
and then change to a 250 milliamp current to maintain a full charge.
This prevents sulfation, the main reason for premature battery failure. ****

Steve,

I leave all the electrical systems hooked up with no problems to date. I don't use it on sealed batterys from Antique or Restoration Battery as the instruction that come with those batteries advise against it. You should check the water level monthly on any battery that is charging even when using a trickle charger.

They do work on tractors and off-road equipment as well as gate openers. Some off-road equipment, golf carts, etc may require 6VDC. I don't have those but you can order those directly from "Battery Tender" online.

Ed,

First I apoogise for referring to you as Steve.

I do have the extension cords.

16/3 x 25' $ 12.22 ea
14/3 x 25' $ 16.36 ea.

If your cars are parked side by side you can use a single extension cord with a triple tap adapter (I don't have) to cut down on clutter or available outlets.

Speaking of batteries...I have an Odessey 2150 that my engine builder let sit with dead short for at least a month or so. None of my Battery Tenders will get it going at all. Is there any hope for this battery or do I just kiss another $275 bye-bye? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
