Only because I enjoy these threads so much, I thought maybe you guys would. Here are a few pics on the 69 Z/28 that we are currently working on....

The front clip will be put on next week and that should just about wrap up this project. Thanks everyone for
the help along the way, you are greatly appreciated!

Awesome! That car doesn't have blue standard interior by chance?

Now that is a REAL nice car! I love the correct coil bracket and harmonic balancer. They are tough items to find. Real nice! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Joe, yes it does. The interior is mint and all original in fact. Lucky for me because you can spot repo seat covers a mile away.

Cool...The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking it might be my dad's old 69 Z...we sold it a couple years ago... at that time it had black stripes, no console, and a center mounted fuel gauge, and nice original blue standard seats and door panels. I always wondered what ever happened to it, and if i'd ever see it again... could it be the same car?

Tommy_Mathison
11-05-2006, 05:26 AM
Joe, unfortunately it's not the same car. My dad bought this Z in 1986 and has owned it ever since. Since the car has no paperwork (It is X33 coded and it does has all of it's original drive train, however), I would love to uncover some owner history. Gotta love the blue on blue cars though!

Oh well, was worth a shot...Funny because my dad bought his in 1986 too! You usually see the Lemans Blue cars with black guts, and the blue standard looks way better IMO...at least if its got original interior. Car looks great btw!

Looks great Tommy! Is this the one that Tom S. painted? If so, he continues to amaze me with his quality of work. Love your level of detail you guys are doing with the chassis as well. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I love constructive criticism, so don't be afraid! I'd like to correct and wouldn't mind discussing anything that you guys think is questionable. I'd also like to get a few more pics online, does anyone know of a good image hosting site?? Thanks everyone!

Constructive criticism? OK, here goes.....that certainly must be a fake 69 Z28 because it is missing the cross-ram and 4 wheel disc brakes.

Oh wait, nevermind, I've been watching too much auction coverage again http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

--------Tommy,,,Not criticism, really, unless its criticism of myself. Are those the correct style brake drums??? Both of the two 69 Zs I have done have had finned drums. What I know about Camaros is slim and I may be being sold the wrong stuff and not even know it,,,LOL!!!.........Bill S

Rear drums look right to me... 4 wheel drum brake cars had finned front drums I believe, maybe that's what you're thinking of? Love the color combo... original blue guts make the car... so much cooler than basic black!

Beautiful car and a great resto job. I'll jump on the bandwagon as well: I love the blue guts. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Looks incredible!!

Where did you get your exhaust system?

Tommy_Mathison
02-27-2007, 04:14 AM
Thanks everyone for the comments!

The exhaust system is from Gardner exhaust. That chambered exhaust sounds wicked!

Scuncio, I'm not sure what Tom used for undercoating. He does Rick's (SS427) cars also, maybe he could chime in...

Darren, my dad did the lift brackets and I believe he used Krylon semi-flat black. I'm torn between a natural finish, orange and black. We went with black after looking at at the pics of Kenny Pascoe's old 18K mile green Z/28.

The crossram was tempting, It seems like you can make an $80,000 Z/28 into a $130,000 Z/28 by adding a $6,000 repo crossram. RS's are the same way. With me dad having owned the car for over 20 years, we restored the it, to the best of our knowledge, the way it left the factory...

Tony,
Tom only paints my cars, I do all the detail work. I use the 3M 08804 spray undercoating used with a special gun. On Chevelles, I use it on trans tunnels, wheel houses, above heater boxes (Leeds Chevelles only) and the rear out trunk pan and extensions. While it is still wet you hit it with an air nozzle to give it the factory applied texture. Works better than anything I have ever tried.
